zackster Dan Yeah…love the fact that in the age of turbo powered cheese it’s pitched down and melodic. Steely checking in on the thread
Mad_Cyril hugopal I’ve probably said similar on here before, but overall I prefer Disc 2 of Hong Kong to Disc 1. Worry not Hugo, original content is not mandatory in this thread. To prove it, and hopefully put you at ease, I’m voting for hour 2 of
BlainSA hugopal I was going to put this in the Controversial Prog Takes thread. CD2 has got great tunes, but the mixing is average to poor in places and jumps about far more than CD1 (which not only has outstanding mixing, but also a great flow).
Wally BlainSA And when did you suffer the blunt force trauma to the head that has clearly messed with your musical tastes?
hugopal BlainSA are you sure you’re not getting your memory in a muddle? Disc 2 of HK probably has the smoothest flow of any GU Disc.
BlainSA mono-stereo It’s beatmatched but that’s not what I’m getting at. CD1 is well above CD2 for its layering and flow.
LT42 hugopal Disc 2 of HK probably has the smoothest flow of any GU Disc. “Probably” is key here as the answer is, it doesn’t. That award has already been handed out and spoken about for centuries since, and thats CD1 of Sydney.
Wally I’m with Hugo - I think people are just wanking over the mix from Music saved my life to Useless. CD2 is clearly the better flow with Diggers ’Pulls off dangerous track combinations with a rally driver’s cool’
BlainSA Wally Not at all. The first mix on CD1 beats anything on CD2. Kinda goes on from there with great key changes and atmospheric building with the mixes. The only ‘adventurous’ mix of CD2 is NYFM into Persuasion.
ScottBailey Best mixing/programming of any two tracks is definitely on CD2. CD2 of Sasha #013 that is! ‘Bluefish - One’ into ‘BT - Mercury & Solace’ has never been bettered in my opinion.

I’m pretty sure I’ve also commented on here before that it’s my fav single transition from any of the GUs.
ScottBailey Dan absolutely. Having tried to recreate it since, it was the first time I really realised that most (if not all) the GU’s were studio mixed, as it’s impossible to do on vinyl without a loop. Guess I was either naive, or in denial to thinking they were all live mixes “based on a GU show”.
