Hursty Finished my first 16 week base block, had a 15 km trail race in May, ran well and finished 7th overall, 3rd in ag. Now I’m starting peak training for 100k in september. Thoroughly motivated by fear haha.

    303abuser you’ll be fine, sounds like you are getting the volume in which is always key. How’s your nutrition?

    I did an 80k in the mountains back in May, got cooked in the heat and didn’t get enough salt on board so although I finished it wasn’t pretty, medical attention was required 😂

    I’ve got a 100 miler booked for September and possibly a 77miler next month as a warm up.

      Hursty I hope so. Three weeks over 100k in June, a 50k training run a month from now, and 3 weeks over 110k by mid-august. If I can get enough hill training in, I should be ok. I want to enjoy it and hopefully be able to “race” it without death marching.

      Heat is a massive obstacle, no shame in getting the medics involve haha. The course I’m doing (same as my 50k last fall, just two loops this time) is pretty exposed and parts are in a valley that heat up and get little airflow. Last year was 20 degrees, which was perfect, but if it’s anywhere near 30, it’s a completely different beast.

      What kind of weekly volume are you doing? The thought of 100 miles is still so foreign to me. Unless I accidentally really love this 100k, I’m thinking more frequent, much shorter races next year.

      Edit: Nutrition is good, I think. Slow drip tailwind, eating a combination of “real” food, aiming for 100 calories every 20 minutes, 60-80 grams of carbs per hour, with a little protein/fat in the form of almonds and cashews.

        You’ll be delighted and impressed to know I knocked off a cheeky 7k before work this morning.

        I’ll be doing 5k at lunchtime, just can’t do any more, I find it so boring. I’m figuring that anything is better than nothing. Kudos to you lads doing 100k! My app tells me I’ve done 110k in 2024 in total lol.

        According to my Garmin, I can do a 5k in 20 mins. I’m happy with that and the best bit is I don’t have to actually do it. Cheers Garmin!

        Millsy I actually find road running to be a bit dull unless I’m doing speed work. Trail running is a whole other thing though, it’s like being a kid and running through the woods, just with more eating.

        Smallman1 It’s about the only time I listen to power prog now. And drum & bass is fantastic for tempo runs.

        mono-stereo It’s not bad for your joints at all, as long as you run with good form.

          Millsy 😂 I’ve only own one pair and that was before I really started running. Running through the trees, up and down hills, just being in nature while building fitness really is a lot of fun. At the volume I’m doing it can be a grind sometimes, but if you can train like a more reasonable human, it’s a great time.

          303abuser Sounds like your nutrition is pretty sound, mine has been my achilles heal mainly because I never practice it during training, but I’m trying to make amends for it now. Tailwind does seem to be popular so will defo try that out.

          With regards to volume, I don’t have any targets but I expect to be hitting north of 100k soon. I watched a vid the other day of a Brit marathon runner who clocks over 200k a week and he was saying others are doing up to 250k a week!

          That is mental, but apparently its what it takes to get the results for marathon running.

          I never run with tunes, but then I love being outside so its always a pleasure to be out
