Hursty Nutrition is one of the things I practice a lot and I really treat all of my long runs as logistical practice. Tailwind in one flask, nuun with added salt in another, and if it’s hot, just water in the 1.5L bladder. Slow drip calories and salt, drink based on my craving for plain water. When I got about 45k into the 50 last fall, all I really wanted to eat was chocolate and that was fine for that distance, but I know that won’t hold up over 100k.
I think for 50k and shorter distances, 100k per week is enough and strength training makes a huge difference. Lifting makes up for a lot of volume when you’re constantly climbing and descending. The idea of doing much more than I am now and maintaining any sort of life seems like a massive challenge and maybe not worth it.
And yeah, I run with music maybe half the time and when I do, I wear Shokz at low volume so I can still hear everything around me. I find the more I run, the less I need music. Information dense podcasts really do help pass the time quickly on long runs for me though.
