Female infanticide is presumably as bad as there also exists here a rule about not being allowed to know the gender of your child until it is born. A preference for male offspring, particularly in the countryside, is something the two countries share in common.
I doubt rapes will be as numerous. The Chinese take a very pragmatic view towards sex in a way that Indians don’t. For example, it is common for even low income migrant workers to have ‘temporary’ wives. For example, a construction worker from the countryside working in Shanghai, sending money home, may well form a relationship with a woman who is a cleaner doing the same thing (working in the big city, sending money home, while her husband works on the farm). This seems to be accepted as a marriage of convenience and not pose a threat to either party’s proper marriage.
I am sure such things would lessen the likelihood of rapes.
Also, I know many Western women who say Beijing is the safest city they’ve ever lived in to walk around as a woman alone after dark. I doubt many would say that about big Indian cities, would they?
