C_J i wouldnt say this is right. Putin wrote an essay about ukraine last year about how it should be part of russia. He has gone mad during covid. Troop build up was going on since last June.
As hursty said earlier he lost his influence on Ukraine so invades crimea then sets up the separatists in Donbass. It would never work as a buffer country and putin knows it.

But… it appears it has been working as a buffer country up until 2008. What changed? NATO changed.

This war has definitely shed light on how far behind the Russian military capability is, they haven’t got a hope in hell against any well equipped, well organised NATO country.

It would be nice if we had our own ICBM missile defence system, not sure if the US cover our patch for us.

Hursty I thought we had something that could shoot down ICBM jointly with the US on our own soil for a long time.

The thing that started to concern me was the next wave of ICBM that could manouver and make themselves hard to hit on the final phase of its flight.
