LT42 A new regime in Moscow would make some sort of peace with Ukraine, blame everything on Putin, apologise for the wrongs and everyone gets back to making money and corrupting. The US will then have their proxy and the grip they’ve had on Kiev since 2014 will be stronger.

Yeah, it doesn’t stop the immediate problem of Russia not wanting America on their doorstep and the erosion of the buffer countries between them. I’m fairly sure that’s a Russia thing and not specifically a Putin thing.

Russia changed once the Cold War ended and although they were isolated they began a better relationship with the West. This new relationship is purely Putin driven which began in earnest during the last few years of Yeltin’s tenure. The war has changed Russia irreperably in terms of the idealogy and any ruler who comes after Putin needs to forge new alliances with the West to save the place from economic extinction.

As I’ve already mentioned, we are making Ukraine into a formidable, battle hardened army. It would be prudent to ensure we maintain good relationships with them and make sure they don’t overstep the mark.

It’s not like this sort of thing has ever happened before 🤔

If you’d said that to me around New Year, I’d honestly have brushed it off with “but surely we’ve learned where war gets us by now and know better - we are in the ‘Information Age’ after all.”

It took me about a week to come to terms that war in Europe was a reality.

Yeah, I’m not sure how much opportunity they will get for ‘new alliances’ if the US decides to invade / set up a puppet regime. Putin might be their last chance to stay a free country.

Russia is not a “free country” by even the slightest stretch of the imagination. If you mean free of US capitalism? There’s plenty of US corps already embedded.
I reckon Putin would be replaced by someone who would be left to pick up the pieces and bring Russia back to an even keel. Its complicated though so who knows what that will look like 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, that’s what I was getting at, and yes there is plenty of US money in Russia, but I don’t think it’s pulling any strings in the way that it does in the US. They don’t want to become US bootlickers, they want to stay a ‘free’ country etc.
