Mono needs to get back on the booze. And bangers. And anything else he can get his hands on

Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) also dreadful live. Damon Albarn pretty bad.

      Amy Winehouse. Absolutely awful.

Marvin Gaye’s another one. Couldn’t string two notes together to save his life that cunt.

It pains me to say this, but Axl is fucking terrible live. They must have done loads of takes for him to get the songs perfectly right.

Good call on Billy Corgan. Whiny. Not my thing. Recognize that Radiohead is a great band, but have a hard time with Yorke’s voice for the same reason.. Yeah, yeah, musicianship and skill and all that, but I cannot help what I don’t like.

Best might be Vince Neal. Not because it’s good, just because it fit the Crue perfectly. His voice from that era might’ve created new STDs.

        jonattonyeah Vince Neal

Yup, and it pains me to say it as a diehard Crue fan. Not sure if he invented it, but he certainly perfected mumble rock. How the Crue ever got anything on record is beyond me.

Honorary mention to Stephen Pearcy in this thread. Ratt are another of my favourite bands, but Stephen was always going to be a showman first, album singer (at best) second.

Bernard Summer, Julian Cassablancas and Liam Gallagher. Pains me to include Bernard as I love NO but he can’t for toffee.

ScottBailey Yup, and it pains me to say it as a diehard Crue fan. Not sure if he invented it, but he certainly perfected mumble rock. How the Crue ever got anything on record is beyond me.

Awful, awful band that put out some proper disc 2′ers. Did what they did. Kick start my heart.

The Dirt is an excellent book. The Netflix series is terrible, but the book is a very good read.

Meh, I’ve always loved 80s metal and don’t mind taking pelters for it. Would love to have been in LA during that time.

alistair Thank fuck Nirvana came round when they did.

Indeed. Distinctly remember the schism too, between the younger rock fans my age (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam) rebelling against their dads/older siblings/cousins with their ‘cock rock’.

bosstrabs Breath of fresh air. Remember them playing Smells like Teen Spirit on the Word. Shot in the arm it was

            bosstrabs Smashing Pumpkins

            Talking of awful bands…

Some great music came out of the grunge scene. Love Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam etc. Definitely don’t begrudge it taking over.

It’s alright Scott. I like some total shit and get hammered on here for it.

Objectively speaking, though, Smashing Pumpkins were a great band. Gish and Siamese Dream frequently appear in critics Top 100 Rock Albums and Best Albums of the 90s lists.

bosstrabs didn’t like the music and hated Billy’s voice. I wanted to like them and even went to a gig with my mate who was a fan, in the hopes that would change my mind. It didn’t.
