Bernard Summer, Julian Cassablancas and Liam Gallagher. Pains me to include Bernard as I love NO but he can’t for toffee.

ScottBailey Yup, and it pains me to say it as a diehard Crue fan. Not sure if he invented it, but he certainly perfected mumble rock. How the Crue ever got anything on record is beyond me.

Awful, awful band that put out some proper disc 2′ers. Did what they did. Kick start my heart.

The Dirt is an excellent book. The Netflix series is terrible, but the book is a very good read.

Meh, I’ve always loved 80s metal and don’t mind taking pelters for it. Would love to have been in LA during that time.

alistair Thank fuck Nirvana came round when they did.

Indeed. Distinctly remember the schism too, between the younger rock fans my age (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam) rebelling against their dads/older siblings/cousins with their ‘cock rock’.

bosstrabs Breath of fresh air. Remember them playing Smells like Teen Spirit on the Word. Shot in the arm it was

    bosstrabs Smashing Pumpkins

    Talking of awful bands…

Some great music came out of the grunge scene. Love Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam etc. Definitely don’t begrudge it taking over.

It’s alright Scott. I like some total shit and get hammered on here for it.

Objectively speaking, though, Smashing Pumpkins were a great band. Gish and Siamese Dream frequently appear in critics Top 100 Rock Albums and Best Albums of the 90s lists.

bosstrabs didn’t like the music and hated Billy’s voice. I wanted to like them and even went to a gig with my mate who was a fan, in the hopes that would change my mind. It didn’t.

I’m obviously a big metal fan but could never get into Megadeth because of Mustaine’s voice. Probably means I missed a lot of great riffs.

bosstrabs there was friction with the indie old-guard as well - I thought grunge was a load of old shit and I really, really tried with it an all.

Billy Bragg has an awful voice, but I love it.

Adele is just some fat X-Factor winner. In the bin. Crying on video about cancelling some shows in Vegas. I’ll give you something to cry about, you shitcunt.

Ronan Keating (not natural, manufactured with lessons)
Liam Gallagher (awful tones, wild cat)
Rhianna (studio polished, sounds exactly the same as 100 other female pop stars, fuck off)

Adele has a terrible non-singing voice. She is also smoking hot now. I mean typical LA smoking hot but I love that.

Dylan. Never ever got it. Sorry.

End product of too many years having smoke blown up your arse

          alistair
          Fuck off.

          Aerosmith
          Def Leppard
          Whitesnake

What a time to be alive

The worst singing voice ever captured by a microphone belongs to Cerys Matthews from Catatonia. Rancid to the core.

Homegrove Agreed. Also, his solos were just technical ability over musicality for me. Some good riffs though.

Millsy This thread should be a case for Mulder and Sculleeee (boyo)

Smallman1 I’ve heard it all now.

Have you witnessed the brain injuries in the movie thread the past 48hrs? It’s very worrying.

            ScottBailey Ellie Goulding
            Florence & The Machine

Good shouts on both of those. Hideous.

I once went to Latitude Festival when Florence and the Machine was the final act headliner, and the music paused the split second I’d begun loudly asking a friend something along the lines of “how can you enjoy this crap?!”. Cue half the crowd by us turning round and giving me an angry look.

hugopal I once went to Latitude Festival when Florence and the Machine was the final act headliner

I was there - the kids wanted to see her. Absolute bilge. Suede were on that weekend too weren’t they? Enjoyed that. I was in the comedy tent off my tits quite a lot - very enjoyable

Along_the_Wire it was this one, 2010. Can’t seem to see Suede on there (they seem to be have been at the 2011 one, which Florence and the Machine didn’t play at).

Can’t believe how long ago that was. It was an excellent time for bands: Crystal Castles, Vampire Weekend, The XX, Yeasayer were all on top form then.

I think the only acts I saw in the comedy tent were Angelos Epithemiou, Josie Long, and Rich Hall.

Looking back over that lineup the thing I’m annoyed about now is spotting that I missed seeing Bret Easton Ellis there in the literary tent.

Must’ve been two years on the bounce - don’t really remember too clearly

                  Anybody mentioned Toto yet?

                  Cunts..

Boss tune. Boss video. Boss everything.

You hate this you quite simply hate fun.
