Maybe you can answer this for me:
Why are so many games now filled with 1) wanky cutscenes all the time and 2) actually having to do ‘labour’ instead of playing the game?
For example, Breath of the Wild, which is otherwise a great game, has you spending inordinate amounts of time collecting things (‘ancient screws’, gems, fangs from enemies you kill) that you could sell for money to buy actual weapons, or cooking recipes that help you to stave off the cold on snowy mountains.
It’s really ridiculous, do game designers honestly think that players want this, or do the producers just insert their wanky cutscene fantasies anyway? Surely none of this nonsense tests well with focus groups, fucking collecting apples to make into a stew rather than hacking and slashing your way through a cave.
