Pilton...I mean Glasto' Festival
I take it all back. Splendid.
Dubman nice one Dub! Used to be a best kept secret, but alas the cat was let out of the bag. Glastonbury is my old stomping ground, so might well know your family
mono-stereo I donāt really like the way festivals have become so middle class and white
Because back when Glastonbury was founded in the 70s it would have been a lot more multi-cultural?!
mono-stereo ffs mono. Literally any excuse to blackface

hugopal Back in 97 it was a smorgasbord, white kids, black dealers, Asian taxi drivers, you name it. Fond memories of the crowd going wild as Archbishop Desmond Tutu made a completly unexpected appearance on the Pyramid Stage that evening. Of course, it actually turned out to be the lead singer of Skunk Anansie, but that didnāt dampen the vibe, It is great moment for multi-cultural Britain.
Coachella completely jumped the shark years ago. They actually had to ban Indian headdresses because the stupid frat boy cunts couldnāt help but rub more salt in that wound. Camera phones killed the hedonism. Pictures for the āgram killed the spontaneity. It was an excellent festival for a bit there. Far too hot for a crowd of 30K. Now itās 100K and a Swedish House Mafia reunion is considered a thing. Yeah, yeah, yelling at clouds here. Just feel for the younguns who donāt go tops off ācause of what it would mean for their āsocial.ā Sad any sense of anonymity and privacy has gone completely out the window.
Along_the_Wire Ah, man ffs.

Reeling off some stereotypes there arenāt you?
mono-stereo Sure it wasnāt Robert Mugabe?
22 hours worth of Greg Wilson Glastonbury mixes 2011 - 2019 ā¦
A lol at Coachella even being mentioned in the same breath at Glastonbury.
Enjoy the next few days, anyone who is there!
Grant, hope youāre on the mend soon and make it before the weekend is over.
Tried 3 fucking years in a row to get tickets and had no luck whatsoever.
Smallman1 innit
mono-stereo I was there that year, it was absolutely horrific owing to the weather ā everywhere was a massive ballache to get to because of the mud I couldnāt wait to get out of there. Q magazine rated Radiohead as the best gig of the 90s iirc
-si- Grant, hope youāre on the mend soon and make it before the weekend is over.
Four of the group have already got the rona (obviously went there with it) - theyāve been stuck in the same tent. Feeling better today, so thereās a chance tomorrow or even Saturday. Missus needs to buy in it itāll be a pain in the arse.
Along_the_Wire Think itās going to be Rona Fest 2022, thereās so much of it about at the moment. Kudos for having a moral conscience about it, but Iād crack on and go if I were you!
nicksneddon Oooh, a sunset
Enjoy all, hope everyone going can make it!
ScottBailey Iām feeling a lot, lot better even in the last couple of hours. I couldnāt have gone even first thing this morning, was just feeling too ill. I can go and stay in the rona tent, just got to get the missus on board now - hopefully head over tomorrow.
Nice one pal that sounds positive ( no pun intended)
I used to live about 10-15 mins away from Glastonbury.
First went in 95 (I think) when Oasis and Pulp were headlining (The Orb may have played) but really remember the NME tent for The Verve, Charlatans and Skunk Anansie (not my kind of music but I still remember the intensity of their performance).
Was one of the last years that people were still able to get over the fence, I think, and the dealers would go to all the tents in the morning. Was amazing weather and definitely a fantastic memory.
Went a few years later when it was muddy and it was a massive ball ache trying to get anywhere in the thick mud, which definitely changes your perception. Would still like to go again but probably find it difficult to not shower or have a dump for 3 days.
whatever I used to live about 10-15 mins away from Glastonbury.
Where abouts? I was raised in Street (born in Taunton)
The locals still get free tickets, know someone who lives in Wookey who gets in with his mates every time via this method
Hursty used to be that anyone within a 7 mile radius got free tickets. Thought that finished ages ago though?
Lived in Catcott for a number of years, Taunton and grew up in small village in Somerset. I know Street well. Went to the college there and went to the really cheesy nightclub (canāt remember what it was called).
whatever you went to Strode?! Classic!
whatever shitty nightclub was Maxims/Envy
Certainly did

Maxims, yeah thatās the one. Proper Sharon and Tracey venue. Assume you donāt live in Somerset these days?
whatever did you ever get to Pawlett Manor? I was too young at the time, but apparently used to be a right sweatbox of a rave there!
I did! Know it very well. Proper rough place. Was bulldozed years ago. They had a good rep for running house nights and Happy Hardcore and banginā techno/hard house really took hold. Was infamous, as you probably know, because the Sun ran an expose about one of their reporters buying crack there. I discovered Lakota and a range of other āproperā clubs after that so it was really just my entree into house music, I guess.
whatever nope, moved to London in 2006. Went back there last weekend for my 40th and Maxims is bizarrely a restaurant now. Itās like eating dinner in an aircraft hanger (yes I went for nostalgia)
ScottBailey
My family used to work there every year on the Kids area. Thatās how I got in. Got there a week before to help set it up. We also had our own private camping area right in the middle. With security at the entrance. I think it was 2004 & the weather was horrific with massive thunderstorms and major floods & heavy mud. Still had a great time though. Would definitely go back but only in a campervan.
Itās a restaurant now! I imagine the smell of stale tobacco, piss and lager still lingers. Same, I moved to London in 2008 (although I moved around quite a lot overall).
I reckon our paths may have even crossed at some point in Somerset history and probably knew some of the same people.
