-si- Absolutely superb timing, dave.

BuT iT Is “ToP baNTZ” or SuMething iNnit?!!

Always loved reading his GU sleeve notes, always made the places and parties sound so good.

A very sad story. I have got his “superstar DJs here we go” book at home. Great stories including Sasha waking up in a ditch across the road from Space in Ibiza clutching a bottle of Jagermeister and Lavelle’s six figure bill from the inland revenue

Fair play to the man for dedicating that part of his life to helping others. Talk about a change in direction from the world he used to live in. A gruesome enough end too. Sorry to hear!

My favourite Dom Phillips sleeve notes moment was in the Melbourne GU when he told us “Feral is an Australian word meaning messy” (or something like that)

Yes Dom, the word ‘feral’ was invented by Australians and that’s what it means.

No one deserves to exit like that. Horrible. RIP Dom.

RIP. I hope he’s in disco hell dancing to all those ace DT basslines.

I doubt he’s listening to Wally Lopez’s effort.

    RIP Dom

Smallman1 same here , they always added a little something to the release. Some memorable lines/quotes

    RIP Dom

All music scenes are loaded with journalists, yet I really can’t think of anyone else from inside the electronic scene other than Dom who actually made a lasting impression on me. Journalists are dog shit, and hurt scenes more than anything, but still Dom seemed to be a good egg and all of his writing was very positive and descriptive. I was reading his booklet notes 5-6 years before I was able to set foot in an actual nightclub. There was no YouTube or IG at the time, so all of my concepts of what clubbing was actually like came from Mixmag, Muzik, Dj, Jockeyslut, URB, ex… but nothing really stacked up to Dom’s “you could call it trance, but I call it magic” flowery pros. I absolutely lapped it up, and gen speaking it has aged well. If you read notes to releases like Nick Warren Amsterdam he was clearly spreading the last of the butter over 6 pieces of toast, but even so the B list releases got his full attention, which speaks to his character. Such afucking shame, especially when you factor in what he died doing. It’s not like he crashed his personal prop plane whilst being a wealthy shithead. Am very sad about this.

zackster beautifully put. Check out his book on the scene. Really captured the late nineties/early noughties scene we all lived and is very funny

        The ‘Superstar DJs’ one?

Cheapest on amazon seems to be £16.

alistair good call. I never checked that out and ended up totally forgetting about it. Will try to track a copy down.

Genuinely saddened by this, such a pointless waste of life. That’ll be a tough one on the family and not just because of the circumstances, the culprit being some jungle gypsy who’ll probably thrive in prison out there. It’ll be hard to gain a sense of justice.

I looked forward to his sleeve notes on every release, just as Zackster mentioned, he painted a great picture with words on the cities and mixes he worked on.

A tragic and infuriating end to a great career. RIP.

alistair Ah okay, didn’t see that as the kindle version isn’t available on the amazon.de site.

Are there any additional colour photos or other bits in the paperback version which make it worth stumping up a bit extra for over the kindle one?

hugopal Don’t know about the paperpack mate, I bought it on Kindle soon after it came out
