Well said that man.
Dom Phillips...
Genuinely saddened by this, such a pointless waste of life. That’ll be a tough one on the family and not just because of the circumstances, the culprit being some jungle gypsy who’ll probably thrive in prison out there. It’ll be hard to gain a sense of justice.
I looked forward to his sleeve notes on every release, just as Zackster mentioned, he painted a great picture with words on the cities and mixes he worked on.
A tragic and infuriating end to a great career. RIP.
When I first bought Mixmag it was an indie/underground magazine that was almost completely unknown.I had to order it from the newsagents because it wasn’t known to them. When Dom took over he updated it and presented it to the masses. How it looked , how it read, how it then centred on making the djs the stars really was his doing. Before that the djs weren’t the centre of attention the artists were.
He was massively influential. Losing him like this seems cruel and unjust. I really hope the UK djs recognise him in a big way. I don’t like the way Sasha never hardly recognises people who’ve died who he’s made a living out of playing their music unlike diggers who always does.
Sasha would definitely not have been shot into the limelight and superstardome without Dom so if he doesn’t do something big he’ll be a bit of a tosser.
Cankles-McJeggings I don’t like the way Sasha never hardly recognises people who’ve died who he’s made a living out of playing their music unlike diggers who always does.
Agreed. Scott Hardkiss comes to mind.
Can barely remember anything specific, but the writing in those booklets were a big part of the GU experience. Hype or not, he really made you believe the sounds you were reading about represented the cities.
Terrible way to go.
Kinda surprised there has barely been any public statements from the DJs, particularly S&D. Wasnt it Dom who coined Sasha the Son of God, which helped propel his career to super stardom? Remember him complaining about it in jest in one of the GU video interviews.
Moaning about DJs not making BIG statements on their social media? Fucking hell, that is not something anybody needs to do when tragic circumstances arise. Cop the fuck on. If anything, its the naffest thing someone can do. Up there with narcissists who post “Happy Birthday Nana” on media their Nana will never see, just so everyone can see how “caring” they are. I’m sure S&D have enough class to make their feelings known through private channels.

Specifically said public statement and not social media, LT. Talking about Dom’s contribution to dance music and their careers, would not have gone amiss. Especially when there was a definite PR push to drive awareness when he first went missing.
No disrespect to Dom Phillips but Sasha needs to come out and make a public statement on his death? Thats a load of nonsense really, is it not? I’m not pointing the finger at you Rhouses btw, just as a general idea, the notion that he needs to do anything public because some washed up thug on the internet says so, is fucking stupid.
Dermo’s never been the sharpest tbf.
Im trying to understand where me saying ‘kinda surprised’ became “these DJ assholes ‘need’ to post about dom Phillips”.
Get a grip, LT.
And just adding to this, I was more wondering out loud if relationships had soured as it had done with Global Underground.
Dom Phillips had left the dance music scene many years ago so there is no need for a social media Diana moment.
Don’t feel the need to explain yourself to some whack job that’s been triggered on the interwebs rhouses. It’s well beneath you.
