RichM C_J it’s more to do with the variety of stuff in Aldi compared to Tescos. But then that’s mainly due to my local Tescos being much bigger than Aldi
Millsy I go full on’Jack and the Beanstalk’ in Aldi. Go in for a pint of milk, walk out with a 100 piece socket set and a cow on a string.
Smallman1 The staff at Saino’s Tooting are lovely though, always compliment me as I pop in after a run. Suspect they all fancy me, even the security guards.
Dan A Lidl bit of Edward in my life A Lidl bit of Sean by my side A Lidl bit of Rhouses is all I need A Lidl bit of H is what I see A Lidl bit of Scott in the sun A Lidl bit of Dave all night long A Lidl bit of Dermo, here I am A Lidl bit of you makes me your man
Hursty We don’t buy meat from the supermarket, the local butchers is for that. I have zero faith in the ‘meat’ supermarkets churn out for a pittance. We also buy it sparingly as we eat mainly veggie, using Riverford each week for a supply of fresh veg
C_J I like the product in Saino’s but there just ain’t one near enough tbh. Although I’ve got to hand it to them, if there’s a better chilled pizza than the Aldi Mozzarella & Pesto I have yet to see it.
Along_the_Wire There’s a new Lidl opened up near me and I was surprised at how good and cheap it was - the only time I ever set foot in one prior was in New Malden and it was like some sort of disgusting supermarket jumble sale. Shop at the local Lidl for basics and the odd stuff they have in there like when they have Greek week or whatever - get some cracking stuff on those specials. Other shop is Tesco for the stuff you can’t or don’t want to get in Lidl - Every Lidl Helps. Lidl is miles cheaper than the likes of Tesco - it’s actually staggering that people still do weekly shops at the big, traditional chains.
Old-Dutch Got a big Aldi up the road - was shopping in Sainsbury’s before it opened, but Aldi is my main go to these days. Agree that you can’t always get everything in there, but can pick these bits up on the High St. Tend to buy a lot of meat from the local butcher
Cankles-McJeggings I got a cree led torch from Aldi about 20 years ago and it’s still going strong. Best torch I’ve ever had. Think it was a 5er. Fucking mentally strong and rechargeable. 👍
Hursty Cankles-McJeggings Sounds like we have another sub topic here, what’s the best thing you’ve picked up from the Middle of Lidl/Aldi, and worst?
C_J I got sick acacia-lidded glass jars for £7 each in Aldi and some tidy recycled glass tumblers too 👌🏻
hugopal In Germany there are quite a few organic produce only supermarkets, which I use wherever my budget will allow. Their ranges aren’t huge though, and all the other regular German supermarkets are pretty much trash aside from also having a decent availability of organic basics.
