Hursty https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/mounting-cost-energy-bills-support-075019978.html More money into the coffers of BP, Shell, EDF et al I wonder if there is a better strategy?
Hursty https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/jul/27/british-gas-record-profit-price-cap-increase 900% increase in profits yet it’s the wholesale price rises due to the war in Ukraine Absolute bollocks, we are being completely mugged off
Hursty https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/mar/23/uk-power-firms-market-energy-prices Another great side effect of privatisation now to be banned thankfully https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/new-rules-boost-consumer-protection-winter-202324
Hursty “A one-off rise to energy bills of up to £17 a year to help prevent suppliers going bust is being considered by the UK’s energy watchdog.” I’m not sure how these companies are coping at this difficult time, the shareholders mental health must really be taking a hit https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-67087043
Hursty Everyone happy still paying way over the wholesale price for gas and electric? https://www.cliffordtalbot.co.uk/energy-prices/ We are practically down to pre “energy crisis” levels now and yet everyone is still getting royally shafted on the price cap
Millsy Hursty and miss out on the frisson of excitement when submitting my meter readings? No thanks!
Mad_Cyril Hursty Everyone happy still paying way over the wholesale price for gas and electric? Is it cheaper at Costco?
Millsy Hursty avoiding smart meters like the plague. Might go full Flares style and get a pay key for the Londis.
Hursty Mad_Cyril unfortunately not but it’s obscenely cheaper on the open wholesale market for energy companies and has been for a while
Hursty Millsy I saw an article saying some so-called smart meters may lose their smart capability when 2g/3g networks are turned off Do you have a trust issue with them or just concerned that the tech is shit?
Millsy Hursty both mate. Would they make any difference to my family energy consumption? I very much doubt it. They will be compulsory soon, but I’m in no rush.
Millsy Out of interest, what’s everyone’s current monthly gas and leccy bill? I’m on about £270 which is a lot less than a few months back but still wank.
Hursty Millsy £199 but I’m overpaying and have to request it back I’m on the Octopus tracker so have been enjoying much lower rates for a year or so
Along_the_Wire Millsy £90 a month with the robbing bastards EDF. Get rid of the kids toot sweet is my advice
gcw 200pcm for gas and electric here. Was 80pcm in 2020 for context. Provider wants to drop that to 130pcm based on usage but I’ll prob leave as is, it soon gets eaten up in winter
vinnyt77 Hursty £160 pcm for both, 2 people living in a 4 bedroom house. Was as high as £260 last year, but Octopus have brought it down fairly quickly…
