Does it have to be progressive house? A lot of these are more progressive trance.
MIxmag would frankly post any old shite to try and stay relevant.
bosstrabs ..absolutely, never liked the term, was always associated with the pretentious and grandiose (which to be fair, it did become for a while).
The annoying thing was, at the time that the original Mixmag article came out that named it, there was something interesting and unique going-on, and that mixture of US dubs, tribal, and percussive house starting to come out of the UK was definitely becoming a thing in it’s own right, just a shame they decided to give it a shit name.
Also, I’d agree with hugopal, a lot of the music that people associate with ‘prog’ came later on and had way more in common with euro trance.
In the States it was just whatever Sasha & Digweed, and their minions, were playing. By minions I mean Jerry Bonham, Jimmy Van M, Kimball Collins, Sandra Collins, Chris Fortier, and so on. It was really just less cheesy-trance - or trance with a lower-case “t”. The scene here in San Francisco in the mid and late ’90’s was house-heavy, hyper-localized, and outside mega-DJs were often given a bit of a side-eye. But the prog guys used to play records from local labels and producers so they were generally accepted. I guess what I’m saying is “progressive” over here was basically meaningless sound-wise and was totally DJ-specific.
Wrecking ball prog is my favourite kind of prog.
Particularly around the 5am mark at Fabric.
A wonderful Dj is El Tel.
Never enjoyed a Terry Francis warm up. Peak time, however… Absolute fire.
Blain At his best when closing Room 1 I always thought.
I remember him absolutely totally clearing out Room 3 once.
I’ve a lot of respect, but it just sounds like two dustbins being smacked together.
