The jump in quality in the last decade for Hyundai/Kia group has been astronomical from where they were. There really is very little in it now. The Golf is one of the ugliest cars about. It went from being the best looking to just not evolving.

    BlainSA

Yeh quite good looking but have you touched one? Everything feels like it will break and probably will. The grills on them are a bit too bling/chav though.

Cankles-McJeggings they’re really popular in Australia, but then again so is racism. Calling a black male a “chimpanzee”. I mean how the fuck did that go unchallenged on here!

Cankles-McJeggings leccy version of the golf (id3) is surprisingly low rent inside and has an absolutely awful touch interface. Some say VW are having to cut corners in terms of quality to pay for diesel-gate.

I did an impulse purchase of a Kia e-Niro last year. Phoned up to ask lead time and was told 4 days. Couldn’t turn that down. Definitely made the right choice looking at lead times now.

I’d prefer a q4 etron but the similar spec model is 15-20k more.

I’ve taken sone stick about having a dad car despite having no kids but it’s really not that bad.

          It replaced a 320d.

I have had no issues with it at all. Yes the in car sat nab is shit but apple car play sorts that.

I’ve saved about 3k in diesel by going electric as well.

          alistair

Fuck off Alistair you boring tedious try hard failing cunt. It went unchallenged because anyone with a functioning cerebral cortex could see there was absolutely no racial intent in it whatsoever.

          mono-stereo

My dad bought a new Taos about a year ago and when he had it about 6 months the door handle inside snapped off. Unheard of for VW. He’s 86.

Hyundai/Kia have absolutely been killing it recently. The ioniq range and EV ranges are consistently well reviewed and they are causing European manufacturers a bit of pause, especially with their interior specs.

            Millsy

yeh totally. Also the parts are cheap, service is cheap, warranty is the longest and caused others to follow suit.
The only one I really don’t like is the Kona. I got one as a run around when my car was serviced and it was awful. Not sure why they built it but it’s nowhere near the standard of the i30 which was in my opinion, better than the golf. Depending on spec obvs.

Cankles-McJeggings yeah, I wasn’t struck by the Kona. Felt like an experiment. Ioniq 5 is a great EV and the recently announced 6 is getting rave first impressions. They are clearly doing something right.

mono-stereo problem is industry wide pal, we where waiting a year for our Audi. Silicon shortage.

              @gcw

              Cancellations are your friend.

Picked up my new motor by looking for dealer cancellations.

Not sure how that would work with a salary sacrifice thingummy though

                All good points, lads.

Looked at the MG Hector, VW Taigun, Skoda Kaushak, KIA seltos - all in the same price range, and the Jeep Compass with intention of splurging 50% more.

Jeep was nice inside, but surprisingly, the overall drive didn’t seem to warrant the price.

Way too many bad reviews from folks we know about the MG. yes it looks all fancy and spacious, but everyone has complained about the build. Feature rich but flimsy at best. Still need to test drive it but we’ve pretty much written it off.

Skoda and VW, under the same umbrella. Skoda is feature rich (ventilated seats, electric seat adjustment), VW fuck all features but apparently a more solid build and the most expensive from this segment of cars. Test drove both, weak sauce. Pick up was shite, and VW felt bumpy af on pot holes and such. Shit sound systems as well, Panasonic in the skoda and some in house one in the vw. Oh yeah VW didn’t even have the tyre pressure feature.

I went in to the KIA test drive thinking this isn’t happening, mostly because I had a Hyundai for the last 9 years and didn’t want another Korean car. Suffice to say I was mind blown with the KIA. A responsive drive with just the right power, featured up to fuck (loved the in house maps software, and the 360 Camera around the car), and it took pot holes well. Space inside was a bit of an issue, but we’re just a 3 member family. Bose sound system is banging, and out of all the cars, it’s priced the best.

Considered buying used? (Is there a reason for new?)

I’ve done more than a decade of new car to new car on PCP hire deals in the realm of £250-400 per month before I figured id just buy a used low mileage car at a decent price and not waste so much money. I don’t know about the newest ranges anymore but the used Skoda / Touran / Kia lot would be solid at low used miles, I’d imagine.

We went in thinking VW was the sure shot, the shitty interiors aside, from the outside it’s the best looking car. Even with having to spend $300 more on the yearly insurance, we were really hoping it’s the one.

But after the KIA test drive, it would seem like the KIA is the no brainer choice.

Might check out the Hyundai Creta also.

NasserAlazzawi yeah maybe we should explore the 2nd hand market. But we’re also getting a solid rate swapping out the Hyundai Verna (35% of what I paid brand new) with all these guys. Wife and I are also both remote working, so we only need one car, figured we can go brand new again.

rhouses But after the KIA test drive, it would seem like the KIA is the no brainer choice.

Glad you like, never had a drive of one myself yet. One of my mate has driven most decent saloons (A4, Superb &&& etc) before he got his Sportage and he’s now onto his second - they love it and do plenty of miles.

The thing I love about the Touran is the thing that divides people - the interior isn’t too busy and cluttered (I hate Honda and Mazda for that) - some call it bland or boring but I like clean and non distracting.

Like others, for me it has a lot of features and space and sitting in the back you get proper seats but I can also flatten everything and carry a sound system / decks etc. I got a 1.4TSI petrol DSG and would have considered a diesel but don’t do 25k miles a year these days - it’s so much quieter an engine and feels like a 2 litre at 140bhp.

I think even the Kia 1.6 diesel packs a decent punch if you don’t need rapid speed.

Rhouses and Nas are putting their places at the afters in SERIOUS jeopardy.
