I watched a Channel 4 news slot fairly recently where they went to some flats with mould and it was fucking disgusting. Families living in absolute squalor with no way out. Literally like living in a block of stilton cheese. Grim.

Millsy yep and there’s no excuse for that, people need to lose their jobs over things like that. The no money argument is nonsense……there is grant funding out there. I suspect that bureaucracy is causing it. People will be sitting around talking about tackling the issue, but not actually doing anything practical

Did this tend to be water / leak / damp at foundation level, or is it bad design / airflow issues?

Amps the mould in my underpants is probably a combination of both of those. It’s a nightmare

All of those can be causes of mould. Most bathroom mould will most definitely be from a lack of ventilation. Some bathrooms won’t have any windows and just an extractor fan. Then some people switch them off at main Fuse board as their to noisey.

Dubman Sure, I think what I was trying to ask was, in your experience were the worst cases badly built or badly maintained? Or both?

What? How can you switch off an extractor fan at the main fuse board? You can’t.

The isolation switch for a fan goes high up on a wall/ceiling ideally, on the same circuit as the fan which is on the lights, but seperate. I’m not an electrician, I must say.

That’s how ours work, anyway.
