There are some democrats on record as having taken contributions from the gun lobby. It is predominantly a GOP behaviour though.
In truth, it’s much more complicated than red vs blue. Plenty of Democrats who are soft on gun control - whether due to a personally held belief, or being a representative of a state / district where a strong gun control stance would see them lose their seat.
You’ve also got a judiciary in general, and a supreme court specifically, that have shown little interest or no interest in upholding existing gun control laws.
When there IS gun control legislation, it’s piss weak. The Safer Communities Act 2022 contained exactly no provisions to outlaw the most very dangerous types of weapon - instead, it focused on a fractional widening of background checks for some age-groups, an expansion of the regulations so that domestic abusers are precluded from buying firearms, and included incentives for States to implement red flag laws.
The original bill, in its initial form in the House of Representatives included a universal requirement for background checks, a minimum age to buy semi-automatic weapons like the AR-15, and a ban on large capacity magazines. Those provisions were stripped out during negotiation in the Senate. Even after the substantive elements of the bill were stripped, 34 Republican Senators still felt the bill was too restrictive, and voted against it.
The Supreme Court is set to be staunchly conservative for the next generation. Little to no chance of any meaningful gun control change while that’s the case.
