Did anyone see the Rodney P’s Jazz Funk doc on BBC4 last night? Eye opening for someone like me who knew little about its origins. Some great music

Watching the news you’d never guess this, but riots get more clicks than peaceful protests.

”Our data suggest that 96.3 percent of events involved no property damage or police injuries, and in 97.7 percent of events, no injuries were reported.”

Racism: The marginalization and/or oppression of people of color based on a socially constructed racial hierarchy that privileges white people.

    What’s the point here?

Discrediting BLM? Hugo is gonna have a wank shortly

That ADL page is absolutely baffling.

I wouldn’t have bothered replying though but your timing is quite extraordinary given that this article just appeared today, with Whoopi Goldberg being forced to apologise after facing criticism from the likes of the ADL for comments she made on her show ‘The View’ on ABC. Quotes from the article:

"In the original discussion, Goldberg said: “Let’s be truthful, the Holocaust isn’t about race, it’s not.”
“It’s about man’s inhumanity to man, that’s what it’s about. These are two groups of white people.”"

"Responding to her comments Mr Greenblatt, the ADL’s chief executive, said: “No Whoopi Goldberg…(the Nazis) dehumanized them and used this racist propaganda to justify slaughtering 6 million Jews.”"

      https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2022/02/01/whoopi-goldberg-apologises-saying-holocaust-isnt-race/

So on the ADL’s own website it claims racism is “oppression of people of color”, while the ADL’s own chief exec is pointing out that the Holocaust was “racist”.

So is the ADL trying to claim Jews are “people of color”, or are they more likely tying themselves in knots trying to appear politically correct and appease social justice warrior people of color - including those who it turns out wish to downplay the historic oppression faced by Jews and undermine the very cause which the ADL is supposed to stand for?!

      Truly bizarre.

The ADL’s definition of racism does make some sense here in the States, but runs into that issue of them thinking everything in the world is America-centric. As if this place is indicitive of everywhere else.

But it’s like oh cool so you’re not racist being Black and hating Asian people, given that defintion, you’re just bigoted. Is that considered some sort of win? Congrats, I guess?

jonattonyeah it may stem from America-centric thinking, sure, but that doesn’t stop it from being completely nonsensical codswallop.

That’s before you get on to the point I just raised above in that the ADL definition literally contradicts the ADL’s chief executive’s comments pointing out that the Holocaust was “racist”.

On your second paragraph, in the demented world of critical race theorists where race is the most important lens by which the world can be viewed, being “just bigoted” would probably be considered a “win” as opposed to being a root-of-all-evil racist. But really that’s all part of what is having invented a dumb game with nonsensical rules whereby only your opponent can ever get given a red card, while allowing you to do the same but be excused.

Hugo boring the tits off the entire board as per.

            Clown.

I try to keep an open mind about it. I mean, if I was Black I might see the world through my skin color as much as anything given their history here - from slavery, to red lining, to not being considered an actual person, to the unfair war on drugs, to the 13th ammendment, to Tuskegee….I could go on and on, all because of their skin color.

As for CRT, it , like BLM, has a messaging problem but is really mostly reactionary. Shitholes in the American South literally do not want to teach what actually happened there. Alabama, which patted itself on the back for banning CRT in schools, basically wants everyone to ignore that they wouldn’t let a Black girl go to that same school in the 1950’s. It’s ridiculous.

Race is a very complicated and sore subject here. Not apples to apples, but probably not unlike how sensitive the Holocaust is in Germany. As a tall, white, straight man with a full head of hair, I have the privilege Mount Rushmore. I don’t know what it’s like to be on the other side so I keep my opinions flexible.

jonattonyeah none of that explains how a black person miraculously can not also be racist.

No one bumping this thread to discuss Tyre Nichols?

              No global protests and riots?

No statues of him being built?

Quickly charging the cops with murder helps to alleviate the rage.

Chauvin was still arrested just 4 days after the incident - all the protests and eulogising of Floyd continued for months afterwards.

Aren’t all the cops black for this case?

I am sorry we aren’t burning down our cities for you Hugo. Might have something to do with COVID lockdown being over, but what do I know?
