LT42 I was there, front and centre. Diggers was excellent - I was lost in the world on bangers after that. We’d parked the car at a station before and couldn’t get on a train to Brighton, but got on one from Hove - went straight to the front after walking down from there. On the way back, it was pandemonium at the station and we were off our chops, but some fella pulled up and said Taxi? We said how much to wherever and he said hopefully, £20? Done. Home by 1am.
Fatboy Slim Big Beach Boutique Documentary
Went to buy a paper the next day and saw the extent of it all - had no idea at the the time
Along_the_Wire
Fond of Just Another Groove at the time also
Seen Fatboy Slim twice , both times in Ibiza. Had the place rocking each time. He’s just a novelty/party dj isn’t he….Good for an hour or two and gets the ladies dancing
That whole ‘Big beat’ thing. What an embarrassing time for all concerned. Fatboy Slim was basically a midlife crisis in a Hawaiian shirt. No wonder grant LOVES him.

Haha I gotta say I’m with you here. Absolute bilge .
The only thing he’s ever done worth while was ditch that annoying cunt Zoe Ball.
His finest moment.
This is the only track I’ve ever liked of his.
Not 94 either so whoever uploaded this is clueless.
Cankles-McJeggings Off the Unplugged mix.
unplugged is still my favorite sasha mix. remember buying it from the Can in Chelmsford and was cellophaned wrap
- Edited
Probably mine too. Got mine from Omega music in Crewe that the Charlatans owned. In cellophane too

Dan they did have some. I got sasha and digweed Bangkok double pack from there. The problem was Al who worked on the house side used to go to renaissance a lot, so he would filter them all out rather than going on sale. Andys record was always good for all the boxed tapes
Cankles-McJeggings think it also had that this was a genuine sasha tape printed on it after all the fake tapes going around
RichM i started off on the hardcore side but moved to the house side after listening to a local dj called steve reynolds
- Edited
Yeh mine had that too. Scousers at 3beat still copied it though.
Dan he was best mates with rolo from grange hill. went to oscars with him a few times as they made he monthly resident in the front room. He just disappeared one day and never come back. quite a few people ended up covering that side of the store and i even done a stint for a day
- Edited
Dan he was a really good dj and still have his dodgy bootlegs that he made of hard to get tunes. they were called once in a blue moon
- Edited
Dan yep nick ran and declan helped out the hardcore side. every sat morning from about 10 the poor ladies next door got battered by those massive speakers. the whole place rattled
Ruined a top GA song with I See You Baby. Been messing up wedding DJ requests for over 20 years….
‘I SAID THE ORIGINAL!’
‘This is the only one there is’
Clearly no one’s heard the Rita Ora re-rub of Praise You.
Dan no sorry al was a monthly resident
Christian Remember buying Ren 1 from there and Al sticking it on for a full listen when the shop was quiet. Hearing that album at that time with all the shitty mix tapes going around was the nuts.
The odd long hair from the Raver side popping their head round with a face like “whats all this birds music shite you’re listening to”
Dan …you remember the original underground record store in Chelmsford? The record stall in Chelmsford market on a Friday? Ran by a couple of guys, one with ginger long hair? In my 6th form ('90-92) it started up and rather than hoof into London we all started getting tunes from there. The they did their sourcing in London during the week then proper back of a van type vibe from the market. We got pally with them and even got them to DJ at some of our “raves” we put on at Chelmsford City social. Not a great success. A 90’s crowd of under 18s expecting LFO and Stakker Humanoid, with those two playing Soul and Levan disco
Vinyl Rhythm must have started when I buggered off to Uni in the summer of ’92. Cant remember why it closed/what happened to it
IndustryStandard I used to go to vinyl rhythm from about 93-94. I knew one of the blokes that helped fund it, sounded like they just couldn’t afford to keep it going by the time it closed.
IndustryStandard Chelmsford City Rave? Was that the Local Life gig with Joe Morena? As I was at that one.
I think it was Ian Wright, Dave Valentine and Joe Morena.
Dan We used to put on events at Chelmsford City FC Social club ( under the main stand ) from around 89-92. Did loads. By the summer of ’92 we’d teamed up with the Rainsford lot and were doing bigger parties at the Town/Shire Hall, up the top of the high street. Nice venue that. Plus a few at the YMCA. Proper DIY vibe. Everyone going potty…..all died down once we started going out in London and we all went off to Uni. Halcyon days !

IndustryStandard Mate I was probably at them! Best thing Chelmsford ever had was Barhouse/Hooga….proper messy.
I used to live 5 minutes from the venue and you’d walk in some nights and they’d have Melle Mel, Konrad Black, Jimpster and Juan Atkins. Nuts.
