Yeah it’s an enjoyable flick. Just one of those things where expectations are the mother of disappointment. Mangold has made some great movies ("Ford Versus Ferrari is fucking fantastic and doesn’t get talked about enough). But Scorsese would’ve been the one for Cop Land. Ensembles rarely go well unless the director is an absolute boss. Cop Land, for its potential, was a miss.
Maybe switch Sly and Deniro roles. I dunno. Even then, I don’t think the director had the chops for a movie like that. Rapaport is also terrible in it for being a driving plot line.
EDIT and Heat is fine. Seems like far too many are calling it close to the greatest movie ever while most are like, eh, it’s good but far too long. The Moby soundtrack is pretty cheesy. Pacino is amusing in how over the top he is, but that doesn’t mean he was good (leaving out that he was on cocaine the entire time is a poor edit). I doubt I’ll ever watch it again. The gifs and memes are enough. It’s no Cruising.
