Religious schools sound horrific, I struggle to believe they exist in this day and age but alas as has been pointed out the schooling system is broken and hasn’t really changed for a 100 years.

Kids get zero life skills or social skills but know specific information in specific subjects which they won’t actually need.

CofE schools are bad enough. Load of old bollocks

Hursty they exist because they often top the league ables so parents are keen to get their kids in there. The Oratory in London being a case in point.

alistair Exactly my point, the whole system is fucked, many parents only care about exam results, not whether they can demonstrate any soft skills or understand what life is actually like.

Used to play football against The Oratory.

      Which was nice.

I’m not actually sure that it should be a school’s responsibility to teach life skills if I’m honest.

Along_the_Wire I’m not actually sure that it should be a school’s responsibility to teach life skills if I’m honest.

Going to boarding school in the mean streets (countryside) of West Sussex made me the man I am today.

Along_the_Wire Agreed, you’ll get the same results as you do now anyway. Imagine being told about mortgages and soft skills when you’re trying to concentrate on your next Tik Tok or the tits on the teacher. At 14 you could care less about adults telling you how important grown up stuff is.

LT42 fair point. But if I was shown that you could invest £50 a month today in, say, Tesla, and return £500k by your 30s it would picque my interest somewhat.

The best investment is the one you make in yourself Millsy.

I should have been a life coach.

Smallman1 wise words indeed. The commodity I’ve invested most in?

              Broccoli

Millsy It’ll defo pique interest but most (not all) will just file it under ‘boring Maths’ and you’ll get the same results anyway.
I think it would take more than just teaching it, it would have to be presented in a way that is appealing to young teenagers, what that would look like I don’t know but the vast majority of teens nowadays find it hard to study and take any interest in subjects given the distraction of social media and what they’re friends are doing. I see it first hand. The modern curriculum which is as old as the hills doesn’t work for most unfortunately, kids should do less subjects and build over time, the workload they have nowadays is far too much and they burn out and lose interest way too fast.

Old-Dutch I played rugby against them at my school.

I’m not sure if they were in our football league as well though.

Hursty schools don’t teach you to talk, walk, or wipe your arse, I expect a school to provide education, not life skills.
