Some great output, some absolute dogshit.

The pair of albums with the Jenny Saville artwork (The Holy Bible and Journal For Plague Lovers) are absolutely superb.

The chart-friendly stuff (especially This Is My Truth, remarkably a huge winner at the Brit Awards) is absolute wank.

I saw them support Oasis at Maine Road, where there were 4 bands very much of that era (Cast, Ocean Colour Scene, the Manics and Oasis) on the bill, and they were far from the worst. They ran Oasis close for the best act on the day to be honest, and Cast and Ocean Colour Scene were absolutely turgid.

Richie still MIA?

Smallman1 Political songs about the Spanish civil war was just what we needed to cheer us all up in the 90’s.

Cankles-McJeggings I went to school with one of hot chip. He’s also in LCD soundsystem.

Manics were great for their time. They have a 90s melancholy to them which sits will with my teenage angst of the time.

Smallman1 not the worst but definitely overrated. What redeems them is they are reliably good live.

bosstrabs But it resulted in the best football chant of all time.

    Lol!

    Very true!

Hate how people refer to them as ‘the Manics’ too

    Fuck off.

The worst thing about the manics is all the Welsh pricks who take their silly flags to all their gigs. Ooh look at us we’re Welsh with massive inferiority complexes. Bellends.

Smallman1 the Janet Street-Preachers are definitely in the same coversation as Pulp, Elbow, Supergrass, Belle & Sebastian, and anything else Jo Whiley played. She’s heavily responsible for this collection of crap.

Manics weren’t a patch on the Shirehorses.
