The church was rather beautiful though

Think there are parts of Hackney that are absolute hipster central, with flats no one on here could afford - bar Smalls and his “Dina Carroll” trust fund.
Then once you pay your £750K for a shoebox, you walk round the corner and its something out of Top Boy.

If ’ackney wasn’t bad enough before, this is what makes it even worse. Just because some plonker thinks it’s cool to pay £5 for a bowl of cornflakes at some pop-up breakfast bar stuck in between a Morley’s and a Chicken Cottage, that’s not an improvement.
The expression “can’t polish a turd” comes to mind.
IndustryStandard surely that’s like lots of parts of London and other major cities in the world, they all have massively expensive and shit parts close to each other and crime can appear across them all in some capacity.
For this there are parts of hackney that are generally very nice streets that look worth the £2m each property, but v near council blocks that have gang issues.
Hipsters and gangsters, sounds like a mustard place to live
No such awfulness in Tooting, just a wonderful part of the world full of absolute legends.

Did you find that in a cracker? Best Christmas joke ever!
How’s Basingstoke treating you chief?!
hugopal it’s all based on personal opinion, part of mine is based on some people at my work (finance industry) who earn a fortune and have a family who live there and love it. There are some very trendy restaurants, bars and pubs in the area to back up the million £+ properties there
But as per my previous post, it comes with lots of shit, such as yesterday’s shootings, but I’m sure that’s not unique to London. I’m guessing Berlin has trendy areas which are expensive but also edgy, a bit shit?
Smallman1 it’s not exactly the Kings Rd to be fair, but I’d take it over the aforementioned every time

Don’t be so hard on yourself, it’s where all the winners live.
I don’t mind Hackney - a couple of mates that have lived there a long time - had a lot of great weekends there.

Yeah but the similar/equivalent types of areas in Berlin are at the lower side not quite as dodgy or crime-ridden in the same way, but at the upper end are not as refined or varied in terms of things like properties and restaurants.
Those parts of London feel more unequal in that the worse seems worse but the better seems better.
There are no multi-million town houses in those parts of Berlin, it’s all apartment buildings.
