Election 2024: The Fate of Democracy

Further securing the borders only a weeks in to the job. Tariffs seem to play as good leverage, but no way will the left see it that way.
VR46 a what often happens with short-term gain?

The one thing Repubs are good at it being really agressive with a politcal talking point and driving it home whether its true or not, they have a high success rate because their audience are extremely gullible and fail in their due dilligence to find out if in fact the message is actually true or not. Case in point being the “open borders” rhetoric used recently. Again, a total lie which can be proved through actual statistics and objective facts, not alternate facts.
Here’s a good article on just how it all works.
https://www.factcheck.org/2024/02/breaking-down-the-immigration-figures/
It points out how border crossings and border attempts have indeed grown under the Biden admin post pandemic. Here’s an interesting point which shows the borders are the same as they ever were and were never in fact “open”,
"While the raw numbers are much higher under Biden — 5 million encounters compared with 1.4 million under Trump in those time frames — the percentages for the two administrations were similar: 47% removed under Trump and 51% under Biden. Bier’s estimates are for illegal immigration between ports of entry. (As our bar graph above shows, both administrations had removal rates above 50% when Title 42 was being used to expel people.)
“These numbers highlight how difficult it was even for the most determined administration in US history to expel everyone who enters illegally,” Bier wrote. (David Bier - associate director of immigration studies at the Libertarian Cato Institute)
another good point he makes that will make MAGA heads spin, "Bier wrote in November that his work showed the Biden administration “has removed a higher percentage of arrested border crossers in its first two years than the Trump DHS did over its last two years. Moreover, migrants were more likely to be released after a border arrest under President Trump than under President Biden.”
Here’s a great graph for those who are more comfortable with pictures. It shows the numbers post-pandemic are up around the same as the Bush era, lowest in general during the Obama years, began to spike again during the Trump admin and then jumped up during covid before dropping again last year. Trump won’t make the borders “more secure”, its the sam for every President, the US border still remains one of the tightest on the planet. The idea that they can stop fentanyl or any other substances coming through is nonsense, they said the same for cocaine back in the 80s. It does make for a cool soundbite though and maybe it cons a new generation of people unfamiliar with the past.
Along_the_Wire look at the start of Trump’s first few months of his previous admin for the answer here. His aggressive anti-immigration rhetoric worked for a few months before things went back to normal again.
“securing the borders” lol. How much did that attempt at a wall cost? When he held a gun to the head of the Pentagon to secure funding. This is the new “war on drugs”. Literally pissing into the wind.
Trump loves the uneducated and dangerously thick. I wonder why….

LT42 Being obsessive anti trump going into an election and promoting a narrative, is propaganda. I didn’t get involved pre election.
Homegrove had to resort to bigotry, so someone doesn’t deserve air because they don’t agree with his political views lol.
I’ll leave you’s to it, this thread is fucked long ago with confirmation bias.
VR46 Tell me exactly what we’re securing when there is basically zero fentanyl moving from Canada to the US and more migrants cross into Canada than the other way around. It’s a farce so he can declare a “win” to the dummies who don’t actually bother to learn anything. And as a bonus, we’ll get to do this again in a month when the goalposts shift randomly once more.
VR46 I asked you a simple question, Funky. Trump is not normal, in any capacity, as a leader and pointing that out is propaganda? Do you realise how stupid that sounds?
I was labelling Trump as a shit human being and a really good conman long before he was involved in politics by the way. If that makes me a “leftie” then I guess the meaning of that label has changed and I was unaware.
Have you nothing to say about the data from Richard Bier the Libertarian, above? Or does it not confirm your own bias?
“Propaganda is the dissemination of information—facts, arguments, rumours, half-truths, or lies—to influence public opinion.”
Apparently calling Trump a cunt is propaganda now. I guess I should WAKE UP.
LT42 It’s impossible to have a reasonable debate with someone who doesn’t understand the words they’re using and instead of answering questions, just moves to another bit of misinformation for you to have to debunk. This is what social media silos and a lack of critical thinking is doing to our societies. What’s the solution? If you can’t agree on a set of facts, how do you solve that problem?
