CDJ-3000 are hardware unlock. 2000nxs2 and earlier arent. Neither are any XDJ-1000.

Makes no sense to include 3000s and not the older models but you’re also not likely to use those in performance mode on any of the above models - just to manage the library and make USBs really.

Full list of hardware unlock here.

If I had CDJs and wanted to activate hardware unlock, I’d rather buy a used RB-DMX1 for automatic lighting control or DDJ-XP1 / DDJ-XP2 for DVS control (so you can run turntables but use rotary knobs and buttons for controls and efx off to the side). Then I’d have some benefit, and not be paying a subscription. I already have the above kit but the XZ unlocks it anyway.

There is also a Pioneer Interface 2 that creates DVS capability where a controller or mixer didn’t already have it.

mono-stereo Do I actually need to do somthing in order for it to register the software?

If you have the CDJ-3000 you can register under Preferences somewhere and then you dont need them plugged in for hardware unlock anymore on rb7.

(edit - Preferences, PLAN, 3 dots on the right, check for active devices - think they need to be plugged in, take photos of the Serial number you’ll need them)

Trial will still show, as some extra features are activated so you can try them out as hardware unlock doesnt unlock some of the higher tier pro stuff.

My son had his controller on the go yesterday and gave me a swift tutorial on rekordbox. Might give it a whirl…. Been using Traktor for 18 years.

There is an advantage to having the separate windows, it’s a doddle to drop stuff into your USB and you don’t have to scroll all the way through your playlists to drop it in

NasserAlazzawi So I tried this, prefreences, plan, 3 dots - checl for active devices just takes me to the rekkordbox wensite which asks me to choose a plan - there’s a hidden box to choose a “free” plan which then just takes you to a download link. What a load of shite.

mono-stereo somewhere along these steps is a button to register the device (maybe down the left of the website is a menu). It’ll ask for your serial number when you are in the right bit but you need to have a log in for that website for it to work.

NasserAlazzawi ugh I accidentally hit the thumbs button so now I feel compelled to reply now. I haven’t seen the video, but I can see Pioneer ending up reminiscing with Technics somewhere down the line. Blue chip products but demand doesn’t match supply.

So whats the cheapest way to unlock performance mode on Rekordbox by buying a controller?

I want to do some practicing before I play on the XDJ-RZ im using at this party in Portugal, so my plan was to get a crappy Pioneer controller just to get used to the software. New or second hand. Any recommendations?

Other options I have are (a) just export to USB/HD and use like CDJs or (b) hook up Traktor via a 3rd party mapping and see how that goes….read some far from positive reports going down that route though.

Hi mate, I’d buy a used DDJ-400, practise on it, and sell it on. It has all the basic features to mix with, plus your hot cues. When you set them on rekordbox during performances, if you export songs to the USB after, the hot cues go with you and appear on the big pads on the XDJ-XZ.

            DDJ-400 unlocks performance mode.

I connected my XDJ-XZ last night to rekordbox 7.01 (in Export Mode) and a button popped up asking if I wanted to register the product for hardware unlock. This didn’t happen on 7.0 so it looks like they’ve simplified HW unlock with a detection / OK button!
