hugopal The inevitable consequence of prioritising inclusivity over duty of care to its female athletes.

hugopal now now, stop being disingenuous, there are medical conditions that can cause a woman to have XY or XXY chromosomes

Swyer/Klienfelter/Jacobs syndromes (among others) all present like this

erik if Hugo wasn’t just reading from the internet he would’ve known that, Erik.

I have to say, what happened to the Italian boxer is a disgrace, heads should roll for this fiasco. This “gray area” should absolutely be abolished in full contact sports. I’m done watching it, they’ve destroyed a once prestigious competition.

LT42 exactly, it’s just lazy but then why let facts get in the way

I feel for the Italian, all that work to get there and I totally agree this grey area needs sorting.

And women want equal rights? What’s the problem!? In fairness it’s a disgrace she / he had already been banned from the IBA.

        • erik replied to this.

Heno from what i understand the IOC have beef with the iBA over their stance on her anyway

erik just rock up to the Olympics with your passport and your ready to go!

            • erik replied to this.

Heno not the same thing at all but yeah cool

              • Heno replied to this.

erik It’s terrible for the other girl no doubt she’s trained for years then ends up in that shambles.

                • erik replied to this.

Heno at no point have I said otherwise mate, I 100% agree with that. Gutted for her.

What fucks me off is the uneducated bandwagon jumping from people who can’t be arsed to spend 5 minutes looking up the validity of something before spewing forth a biased opinion that’s avoids the facts

erik agree with you the boxing in the Olympics as a whole has been a joke some of the decisions have been questionable to say the least.

                    • erik replied to this.

Heno I’ve not watched any of it apart from the BMX and the surfing

It feeds their current culture war though. They love it. If we get a more central Tory party now the Boris mob have hopefully fucked off, and Trump loses in November, you’ll see a lot of the noise around gender issues quieten down.

Amps not when the IOC is allowing biological males to beat up women in the name of sport you ghoulish clown.

Now now, stop being disingenuous - they were found to have XY chromosones, not XXY chromosones. That rules out Klienfelter and Jacobs syndromes.

Swyer syndromes is the only one of those mentioned which has XY chromosones.

However, your categorisation of it as being something which “can cause a woman to have XY [….] chromosones” is misleading.

Swyer syndrome is rather something which can cause a man to have female presenting sexual organs; genetically they are men, but they have a mutation which means that their male sexual organs fail to develop.

                          https://novonordiskfonden.dk/en/news/more-women-than-expected-are-genetically-men/

It seems unlikely that this boxer has Swyer syndrome either, as the boxer was also found to have elevated testosterone levels which is not usually present in Swyer syndrome.

Imagine having to wade through the chromosome weeds of a Friday morning. Grim.

alistair That’s a response to the bandwagon jumping comment and how blown out of proportion any stories of this nature are. Not to do with the slow response of sporting bodies to any issue that lands at their door.

Actually quite enjoyed Andy Murray’s retirement tweet on X. ‘Never really liked tennis anyway’ . Class
