hugopal I’ve probably posted this before, but on the subject of Villalobos I’m pretty sure he lives (or lived) about a 15 minute walk away from where I am as I’ve seen him eating at a restaurant nearby with his family, and it wasn’t really the kind of restaurant you would travel across town with your family to attend.

What a lovely story, thanks Hugo!

hugopal this is the kind of response that makes sense as to why people do love him. Feels like the kind of DJ you don’t just dip in and out of during a night, but get stuck in for the duration to get it. Cheers

Have seen him at the Fabric birthday a couple of times. Not memorable is about right..

Saw Villalobos at Dekmantel a few years ago.

How was he?

Magnificent!

hugopal Heard Francois K play this in the Big Top at Bestival one year, place went nuts. Great track

Would love to actually hear him play a set live, to see what all the fuss is about. He’s def not a dj who gets any credit from people sharing a 30 second clip recorded on a mobile, from some festival in Bulgaria, whilst he’s on his second henry of ket in less than 2 hours…

      I’d save your money, Rich.

-si- same, prob missed the boat now as I’m too old to do all nighters, but would like to have seen one of his long sets.

RichM Blimey! Grant has hacked Rich’s account 👴🏻🤣

Never seen him but knew loads of people who worship when I lived in Manc, seemed like all the ket heads were into his stuff

Those words from Judy Griffith have given me a right chuckle. ‘Laying his soul bare’ LOL. He’s playing a load of other people’s records FFS, it’s not an interview with Parky.

gcw I think that refers to how messed up he gets during his sets. Some pictures I’ve seen of him look like he is having some kind of existential crisis.

I think teasing the same track in is because he had forgotten what he’d played.

Didn’t think he was great the couple of times I saw him at Fabric.

Of the residents/regulars, much preferred Tezza Francis, Craig Richards or, in the early days, Deep C & Udoh.

Never seen him. Nothing he’s been involved in musically has floated my boat. Looks like he needs a good lunch down his local Harvester and a week at his mums eating her Battenberg to put some colour in his cheeks.

My thoughts have always been that during that period Villalobos was a DJ who likes to get fully involved, clicks with that room 1 sound system and also with a room full of “fashionable” business punters high on ketamine and gak, all in it for the long haul. It’s about commitment and a large stash.

Unfortunately that doesn’t really translate to home listening at all.

Hursty seemed like all the ket heads were into his stuff

mono-stereo punters high on ketamine and gak

I didn’t take any illegal substances in fabric and still very much enjoyed Villalobos’ set.
