All good points, but, answering the question of ‘who could do it before the world cup’, I reckon any of those four could do better job than Gareth will, with almost no time in the job.

Anyway, Gareth will probably be there for another decade or so, then get promoted to ‘FA / England Sporting Director’ or similar, so as to perpetuate the misery.

Sven was utter dogshit (with a highly talented squad) and got 3 tournaments.

Roy Hodgson was utter dogshit and got 3 tournaments.

Not a blind Southgate defender, but if there’s any justice he won’t get binned off having had 2 much better tournaments than either of those two managed.

All those managers had one thing in common. They were all dealing with arrogant Prima Donna wankers all hating on one another. I don’t believe this group of players are anything like the cuntage they had to deal with. This group are pretty down to earth and by all accounts get on really well.

It’s seeing the potential and then seeing it go unfulfilled or seeing it being stifled that’s so painful. You can’t help but think better managers would get better results with them.

Thats the crux of it. Couldn’t care less about Trent, I understand the way he plays for us isn’t great for other systems, but the rest of the squad are massively capable.

Perfect opportunity to play Trent (and Tomori) on Monday but instead of looking at what he can do (put the ball on a sixpence from anywhere and assist in more goals than anyone else), he will look at his perceived weaknesses
