wrongun any reason? have you been to any games of either of them?…

I’ve been in Berlin for over 6 years now and still don’t really have an allegiance to either of them. I currently live right on the boundary of the more Hertha and more Union areas as well.

I went to a Hertha game last season and it was quite dull tbh, though they’re not helped by still being stuck in the Olympiastadion with the athletics track meaning the stands are miles from the pitch. Not got to a Union game yet.

mono-stereo no techno at Hertha matches. Loads of big sausages though if you want.

Not sure which of the two, if any, are particularly more “techno”. Hertha is the west Berlin club, Union the east. Klock is from west Berlin so perhaps favours Hertha if he cares. However Dettmann is from east Berlin/GDR so might lean towards Union.

Much as I am missing the game itself, I have to say, it’s nice to not have the constant football hyperbole machine in your ear.

Went once to a Union game. incredible atmosphere.
Had a mate who lived for their several years and he is still a die hard Union fan, now. living in Brussels, making it to several games each year
The story to Union is incredible. Loads of different articles written on it but heres one post their promotion to Bundesliga

So can we watch it anywhere normal, or back on the streams?

Just testing URLs in this capacity…

Few of ze German games are on BT sport tomorrow

yes! looking forward to settling in for an afternoon of Bundesliga-based banter this arvo 😄

Wanted to watch the Dortmund game but can’t listen to Macnmanamanamanamanamanamanama all afternoon.

It’s actually all a bit shit when it’s not your team. Be better off getting the S2 out and synthesising train wrecks whilst giving it the Jesus pose

Watched Newcastle replay their 8-0 game against Sheff Wed while sinking some beers rather than get drawn into the German footy. Decent couple of hours entertainment.

Wally Wise move, was dire. Lasted about 15 minutes before ditching

wrongun Good story, though does get a bit edgy…

“Guys with long hair, growing beards and all that stuff - they went to Union and felt freedom and wildness”

The lads are back in training! Well, most of them…

Do we have a date for the first games? Think I’ve missed a fair bit of info here. Are they playing behind closed doors?

Amps the current PL target date is 12th June, though there’s a decent chance it could get pushed back a week.
The games will obviously be played behind closed doors, though they should at least be played at the home team’s usual stadium.

          Homegrove stickied the discussion .

Dortmund are the obvious one for the yellow wall, generally being the only club to regularly menace the detestable Bayern, and the Klopp connection.

BUT Union Berlin are the coolest top flight club, for their fans, their anti-Red Bull Leipzig protest, and the running battles they apparently used to have with Dynamo (the military/establishment team) fans in the old East Germany.

Still, the club I always root for in the Bundesliga is Werder Bremen - they were my first choice so I’ll stick with them. Mostly for their surprise league wins despite being a heavily unfancied team, and Karl-Heinz Riedle, one of the most intelligent forwards to play the game. The perennial underdog who come good.
