Think I miss gigs even more than clubbing. Their absence during COVID has left a gaping hole in my social calendar.
Thought I’d while away some time by giving a top five list in no particular order. This list is fairly fluid depending on my memory. Yours?

Radiohead - Roundhouse 2016
Prodigy - Brixton academy 2005

Billy Bragg, Shepherds Bush Empire, 2008
REM, Hyde Park, 2005

Never saw New Order in their pomp, wish I had…first saw them at Old Trafford in 2002. ..i’m sure Strummer will have some better ones than that along with Grant

alistair Underworld are like New Order, seen them so many times - spangdanggled every time.

Forgot to mention Oasis, Astoria, 1994 - some gig that. I fucking hate Oasis.

alistair Underworld are such a great live act. Their Ally Pally gig in 2017 was very memorable. Finished with Rez, Cowgirl, Moaner and Born Slippy.

Saw them at Village Underground about 18 months ago, 700 or so people and they blew the bloody doors off.

        Un be lievable Jeff.

        alistair
It was a postponed gig from about 3m earlier…called off on the night… so Trent was very apologetic but also very angry because the venue couldn’t fit in some of their backdrop. No support and they tore the place apart for over 2hrs

        Lcd soundsystem - tripod dublin
The verve - the point dublin 98

I’m sure I’ve missed a few some foggy memories in there

        Too many to mention.

Of the last few years, Jeans Team, The Buzzcocks and The Vaccines in Beijing, great atmosphere for all of them.

My favourite live act were Crystal Castles; Alice Glass was nuts. Also saw them so many times I couldn’t really pick just one instance.

Act I’m most disappointed never to have seen live are The Prodigy, I was unfortunately too young when they were in their prime.

        Has anyone seen Anklepants live?

LT42 lol…havent heard that name in a while - his Boiler Room was erm….quite special

Massive attack in Manchester around 2003 was a good un. Sasha at the Barbican was pretty fucking cool as well.

Pink Floyd - Earls Court 1994.

            Wasily
Would that of been the UFORB tour. I saw it in Brighton & Portsmouth. It was very good.

Lol’s for Dave and Hugo, a pair of live act disasters.

            Daft punk -leeds
            Prince-Machester
            Soul 2Soul Brixton
            orbital -Alexander palace
            Zero 7 -V Festival

            The Clash-Lewisham Odeon 1980
            New Order-Barcelona 1984
            New Order-Town + Country Club 1986
            The Specials-Winter Gardens,Margate 1980.

I`ll throw this in for good measure.Night of the lasers+Hooky being baited most of the gig. They were on fire that night.

Is weird lookin back at this list, as there’s such a massive gap between Prince in ’98, and Fleetwood Mac in 2009 - but I realise that for that 11 year period, I barely went to any gigs. Spent most weekends in a dark corner of a club listening to DJs. Was only in 2008, after Mrs Vin and I had got together that I realised you could actually do both…

                U2, Wembley Stadium, 1993
Pearl Jam, Brixton Academy , 1993
                Prince, Wembley Arena, 1998

                Elbow, V Festival, 2009
                The Bays, Concorde2, Brighton, 2009
                Stevie Wonder, London Calling, 2010
Reverend and the Makers, Shepherd’s Bush Empire, 2012
                Underworld, Royal Festival Hall, 2014
                Editors, Glastonbury, 2016

strummer Not a fan of The Clash, but cap doffed nonetheless.

                Another forgotten one:

Manic Street Preachers, Town & Country Club, 1992

Jon Hopkins followed by Mute Math (different stages) at NH7 In Bangalore was a brilliant ‘live gig’ experience. Hopkins almost had me in tears.

altJ put up a great show over here too. It rained and I fucking hate the rain, but it was perfect.

Will get slated, but I thought Fatboy Slim was a brilliant overall experience. Massive stage with pyro, was tripping balls and the visuals were insane. Was it a seamless set with flawless mixing and intelligent programming, fuck no, but it was great party music.

Simian Mobile Disco tore it up with the most nutty acid at NH7 in Pune. Kohra and BLOT warmed up for them. That was good fun too. The guys from Simian drove past us on our way back to the hotel.

I’ve seen the vaccines in this intimate hipster bar, tight band but the sound was shit.

rhouses Hopkins is excellent live. Will never forget the two ladies with light sticks at Brixton during an epic Everything Connected. Better than Obi Wan v Darth Maul.
