Unbroken1 These are all separate issues that have little connection to Morillo’s rampant sexual abuse of women. Funny how a journalist can digress to such a degree that they flip the egregious behaviour and crimes of a celebrated black DJ into an issue of race and BLM. And all with semi clad babes on the cover!

Unbroken1 the origins of disco and house are indeed black (and gay), but to say this relates to the way that young clubbers perceive them today is shortsighted.

Is that not the same as kids into guitar based indie bands being less aware of the origins of blues etc…

Different times relate to the past differently, and the relation tends to fade over time.

Not sure it means people are being racist necessarily.

Guetta is a massive cunt though 🙂

alistair …I’ve outlined the connection, and don’t think it’s a stretch at all. Both are issues of denial of fact and a reluctance to speak-up on behalf of your peers, I’m not sure why this is such a difficult concept to grasp?

Like I said, I don’t think the language is helpful, and there are definitely clickbait-y aspects to it, but to say ’she’s got it wrong, she has no idea about the real origins of house music’ is an absurd simplification.

Mad_Cyril …yes it is, kinda. But house music is just 35′ish years-old, post civil rights and all that. Its amazing (shocking) how adept we are at erasing even recent history when it suits our needs, and I guess you could argue not speaking-up contributes to that

Unbroken1 he’s a rapist, he’s been enabled and indulged. We should be asking why and how and whether there are any more victims, abusive djs and what steps the scene needs to take to clean up its act. Those are the issues in hand here.

…that is literally what the article says.

          Blimey.

Unbroken1 People vote with their feet. DJ Rolando and Derrick May don’t sell as many tickets as Beyer and Carola. It’s business. Carl Cox has been more popular than the lot of them. Race never held Morillo back. An average dj whose success significantly exceeds his talent

…sorry I’m confused, who is suggesting race held Morillo back?

Damo, the girl’s article mentions race etc.

Personally I think she’s lumping a load of other unrelated issues in with morillo being a rampant sex pest.

…christ almighty, yes it mentions race, it compares dance music’s reaction to BLM to it’s reaction to Morillo’s suicide. That’s it.

Have I slipped-into an alternative dimension here?

…for ‘unrelated’, read my fulsome explanation.

            Unbroken1

No need for christ almighty, mate. I’m not having a go. Just giving my take on the article. Its filled with unrelated virtue signalling, in my opinion, as I stated in my next post.

I’m not sure the ‘erasing’ is always the deliberate act it’s sometimes, conveniently, labelled as. Some people just have no interest in history, or are oblivious to it for whatever reason.

Deliberate erasing is definitely a problem though, I definitely agree with that.

…OK, as I’ve said repeatedly in this thread, I’m not a huge fan of the article either, but definitely don’t find some of the parallels that odd/unbelievable either.

I do find the fact that bringing race in this conversation is triggering for some quite bizarre though.

Damo always gets exercised at the thought of sexual racism spoiling his dance parties.

Never an issue at my Zackster presents MAGAritaville nights.
