zackster Sure, I get that, but I object somewhat to having the term ‘electronic dance music’ applied to that narrow band of shite, just like I’d object to ‘rock music’ only meaning say The Killers / Razorlight / [other fairly shite bands of that ilk].

Wasn’t it made up for the American market first but is now played all around world. Look at the main stage at Tomorrowland.

zackster I know the culprits only too well, it mostly feels like a massive hijack by record execs from the US too. Which is why I don’t think it has to do with a “sound” per se as theres been many “EDM” type tracks played by large DJs for over 20 years now.

Nina getting away with it because of her looks is a nonsense as far as I’m concerned and is neither here nor there. We were only talking the other day about women “Sarshering” front and centre mostly because they wanted to ride the head off him, and men too down the front thinking the same also (Dermo). I know plenty of women from back home who only went out because the DJ was “hot”, (see İdris Elba for further reference). Unfair to throw that at Nina imo, she’s a genuine vinyl lover and collector.

I’m fairly trashed right now on moonshine and might not be making any sense anyway, Zach.

Hursty The shiny event at a beach resort, with fireworks going off and product placement everywhere is always going to be the more popular ticket around. Has the sheep flocking from miles around. Harping back to the “be there, be seen” moto. It’s a shame because music integrity has always lost out because of it, but that’s life and it’s only my opinion.

Dubman Yes, and it pisses me off that marketers have hijacked that broad description.

If someone asked me ‘do you like electronic dance music’ I’m hardly going to say ‘no’ am I? I like all sorts of the stuff from DJ Sneak right through to ambient.

Along_the_Wire Typically I do. But at the beginning of lockdown, there was just so much out there to see….I got greedy. 😂

I consider EDM as it’s on genre of house music. I wouldn’t say Nina plays EDM at all. Definitely Techno.

Dubman You may consider it that, but it’s still an absolute nonsense.

House music is a sub-genre of dance music, which you now subvert.

          bosstrabs
Agreed house music is a genre of dance music. Just because we don’t like EDM many millions around the globe do.

Dubman I do like electronic dance music 😆

            I don’t like Garrix.

            That’s my point.

As derm used to say, they are all mad but the ones that didn’t birth coupled with massive drug use are on another level. Klock did well to swerve

Nina sure sparks conversation if nothing else.

Best clip I have seen is her playing Prodigy no good start the dance. Crowd were going bananas

The suggestion that she deserves her spot regardless of her ability to mix because crowds dig her is bollox.

People will listen to any old shite while high.

I’ve watched a handful of Nina’s radio shows (one from Ibiza last year I think was alright) and there’s been nothing wrong with the mixing, from a techno standpoint. She’s not in Diggers class obvs and would prob struggle to build it up from house into banger territory but that’s not what she does so it’s a moot point.

I would say it’s mostly Euro trash Italians and Germans who wear shades in the pitch dark and Russians on crocodile who go to her gigs, and Zackster, so maybe there’s room for improvement.

What are Russians on crocodile Liqui?!

            Made me laugh!
