Smallman1 are you on furlough @Smallman1 ? Or if not, is your sector at risk of mass redundancies?
The COVID-19 Blues
Not on furlough and it is yes.
Drink increased massively due to Covid blues. Resorted to medical help regarding mood off my own bat which is something I’ve never done before being a stupid bloke who can fight anything without any help whatsoever
Just has a mini reset and got back to normal after 1 month off work concentrating on diet, sleep and wellbeing. All good now. Glad I got it sorted rather than digging the hole deeper.
Millsy Basically this.
I’ve been pushed to manage teams throughout my career, as considered necessary for ‘advancement.’ This despite me being very clear that I’m not that good as a manager, and would far rather just get on with my own work, rather than have to worry about some idiot that can’t spell correctly.
I honestly don’t give a fuck about status as long as I’m suitably paid for the expertise I offer. My current boss has finally recognised the value of having someone like me doing the stuff that I do - so I basically get left alone to get on with it, and feel like I’m being paid well enough not to look for work elsewhere.
I’ve actually only had two beers in about three weeks (I know the exact amount because I bought 6 IPAs for a tenner from the offy).
Excepting people who are throwing caution to the wind and just going out, these times seem to have separated people who usually drink into lockdown heavy solo boozers and those who can’t actually be arsed as there’s no socialising.
Lightweight central in this thread.
wrongun media-owner side mate
Had a Peroni with my American Hot on a Romana base (no cheese) last night as it happens.
Absolutely winning.
Well then. I’ll definitely have some of that! How quickly will I go blind?!
On a Wednesday? I don’t know about over there, but if you get called into an unscheduled meeting or suddenly scheduled meeting late morning on a Wednesday over here, that’s never a good sign (or is in your case).
Most bigger companies let people go on Wednesdays because of some studies that suggest it gives you less time to dwell on the matter, kick up a fuss and go postal.
loopdokter Here they typically do that on a Friday, end of day, so there’s no time to “kick up a fuss” and the weekend is there as a buffer so remaining people don’t dwell on it.

I’m back working for my ‘old’ boss. Long story short, I worked with him at a previous company that fired him and didn’t extend my contract. He’s Aussie, so we get on like fire and dry timber which is good. He gets my dry sense of humour and I can call him a cunt to his face and vice versa, which is a treat.
Anyway, he got a new gig working remotely in the same industry (IT) doing essentially the same thing for a company based about 2.5 hours north of the city we live in. They needed someone to do what I do so he vouched for me and they hired me on the spot - which was great because I’d been unemployed since January 1st, 2020 and started in late July. The issue however, is I’m making about 6K less than my previous role and it’s causing financial strain, but it’s a bit better than being on the Canadian government’s 2K/month assistance during COVID.
The upside is I work 100% remotely, so I enjoy being able to roll out of bed looking and smelling like I live under a bridge and my hobo name is Filthy Jeans Jay. I’m just not too sure how much longer I’ll be able to ‘afford’ to stay here because of the custody battle I’m going through my ex. My lawyer, whilst excellent, is costing me a small fortune and he’s not even the most expensive in the game. Spent 20K so far and probably another 20K to go. :*(
Jay Loopdokter is the hero this board needs right now.
Just disappointed that he didn’t chuck some picked-up Aussie dialect into the mix.
