jonattonyeah Weird fact about that movie
Not the only one. I’ve still not seen the documentary Room whateverthenumber was, but apparently it’s fun. And people have some really nutty ideas about The Shining.
But yeah, that’s another one.

Tried the new matrix installment over the weekend. I think I got half way through it before I couldn’t take it anymore. I had very low expectations and it didn’t quite get there. Completely unwatchable.
Room 237. It’s pretty good. It’s more about the people who have the conspiracy theories than the theories themselves. Some people have far too much time on their hands. Rich, I know, coming from me given what I spend my time on but whatever.
jonattonyeah It’s more about the people who have the conspiracy theories than the theories themselves.
Yeah, that’s what I’ve heard about it. Some theories are probably true with The Shining though, knowing Kubrick. I find it easy to believe all the theories how it’s about the genocide of Native Americans, and the Playgirl thing sounds plausible, because apparently that said issue had an article about child abuse. Some of the stuff like the impossible architecture of the hotel was most likely just to put the viewer on unease.
It’s dead quiet at work now, due to most of Finland being on vacation in July, so now I’m just checking off stuff off the Rewatchables podcast I’ve not seen in years, so can listen to episodes between clients. Tonight’s watch was Midnight Run (1988). Not as good as I remembered, also a bit too long, but the actors are all great in it. DeNiro and Grodin have great chemistry, and Dennis Farina steals every scene he’s in as Jimmy Serrano.

If you like the flick I would recommend the book, most of it is unfilmable, but funny as fuck. Probably Easton Ellis’ best work, but I have a soft spot for his early stuff and the opening chapters of Lunar Park made me laugh so hard on the train I snotted all over myself and the bloke sat opposite me.
Homegrove Midnight Run (1988). Not as good as I remembered
Yeah same, Hannu. It’s a good movie but feels very dated. Much of the humor just doesn’t hit anymore. The Color of Money feels more present and it came out two years earlier.
Give Vision Quest a go. The Rewatchables episode is great. Russillo is hilarious. The movie is also super weird but very amusing.
jonattonyeah Vision Quest
I’ve never liked the look of it. You sure?!
It has a boss soundtrack and some of the most bizarre dialogue in any movie ever. I don’t think I’d call it good but it is something. Pay for a rental? No. But if you’re hungover on a Sunday morning and it’s available on some streaming service, give it a go. There are parts that are legit good and others that are unintentionally hilarious.
You could just watch a decent movie instead Grant.
Just a suggestion!
Smallman1 Being curious is a good thing
Along_the_Wire preaching to the choir there I would imagine
A lol for Millsy!
Just finished The Gentlemen.
Great cast and it was good to see Hugh Grant using a different voice and haircut for a change. An absolute pile of shite though. Guy Ritchie with his smarmy cockney script is now beyond stale. Convaluted nonsense to be fair with not one memorable character. That robbery with the dancing rapping ninjas? Do me a favour.
Recommended. 9/10.
LOL I didn’t mind it! But my expectations were very, very, very low. Not good but ehhhhh a fine few hours while making some dinner.
IT part two.
Fucking awful.
Strange that Stephen King hated Kubrick’s brilliant adaptation of The Shining yet he cameos (albeit briefly) in this pile of poo. This has more comedy value than horror.
I liked the first half! Latter half goes to absolute shit. But visually it’s quite good throughout.
And in fairness to King, Kubrick made a movie that is vastly different than the book. I wouldn’t be too happy either irrespective of the end result.
