Elvis… dramatisation of the man’s rise and fall. Not a theme that I thought would appeal to me, but I found it entertaining and engrossing - the 2.5 hours passed by pretty quickly. Tom Hanks is a strong support as Elvis’ manager/promoter. 8/10

Homegrove Hottest night of the year so far, and being in Finland were mostly concerned with warming up our houses, rather than cooling down

First, we’ve had 2 days this year over 25 degrees, so deal with it lol. Second, do the right thing is a great heat wave movie. Stifling heat makes you feel like your immersed in the film and you get bonus points for wearing a public enemy shirt.

Jules72 I read a bad review of that as it all too fluffy and doesn’t delve into the depravity and of having chronic constipation and dying of a heart attack absolute riddled with drugs

Watched Nitram last night after the king the toilets Mark Kermode rated it. Based on the true story about Martin Bryant who went on to do the biggest mass shooting in Australia in 1996. A hard hitting story which led to the biggest gun reform in Australia. A hard watch but still good 8/10

Looks good Nitram, same guy who did Snowtown and True History of the Kelly Gang.

Got off a torrent site. I think it was released last year sometime but is now at UK cinemas.

Dan I’m not bothered about him, but if you’re gonna do a biopic on him at least tell the truth.

Also, the King Cunt post was just a follow up to a LOL from Ed on the cricket thread…

The Lost City. It looked shit and it was fully confirmed within minutes of it starting. The missus wanted some easy watching as she’s got the rona and RT gave it 79% so I thought I’d go with it - happy wife, happy life and all that old shite. Absolutely fucking dreadful - I’m astonished this was actually made. 0/10

        Hatching.
Finnish film about a girl who finds an egg and something nasty hatches out of it. Coming of age horror with some social media comentary. Not wildly originally but enjoyed it.

Finally got around to watching No Time To Die on Saturday. Not a bad film as such, packed full of the usual stunts etc. Wouldn’t be a massive loss if they ended the franchise there I think (I know that they wont)

Should’ve ended it before the Brosnon era - Bond films from then on have been absolute fucking cack.

jonattonyeah I like even Quantum of Solace, but I’m not a huge fan of Skyfall. Spectre was fucking awful. Quite liked the new one, and Casino Royale is excellent.

Bought Jaws on 4K recently, and thought it again a fine choice to watch on July 4th (did so last year too, from Netflix though). One of those movies that was on TV every summer when I was a kid, but it blew my mind when I first saw a real wide screen version. Completely different movie when compared to the one fitted to old TVs. Outside of the Sergie Leone spaghetti westerns has the scope never changed in my experience as much then when viewed on a big screen TV with at least Blu Ray-quality. All the scenes on the boat look incredible.

            Homegrove

The Shining for me. Seeing it on a widescreen for the first time was mind-blowing. Those older, square televisions lopped off so much of the film at the sides.

Weird fact about that movie, When Jack is in the lobby waiting to meet with the hotel staff he’s reading a magazine. The magazine is Playgirl.

jonattonyeah Weird fact about that movie

Not the only one. I’ve still not seen the documentary Room whateverthenumber was, but apparently it’s fun. And people have some really nutty ideas about The Shining.

              But yeah, that’s another one.

Tried the new matrix installment over the weekend. I think I got half way through it before I couldn’t take it anymore. I had very low expectations and it didn’t quite get there. Completely unwatchable.

                Homegrove

Room 237. It’s pretty good. It’s more about the people who have the conspiracy theories than the theories themselves. Some people have far too much time on their hands. Rich, I know, coming from me given what I spend my time on but whatever.

jonattonyeah It’s more about the people who have the conspiracy theories than the theories themselves.

Yeah, that’s what I’ve heard about it. Some theories are probably true with The Shining though, knowing Kubrick. I find it easy to believe all the theories how it’s about the genocide of Native Americans, and the Playgirl thing sounds plausible, because apparently that said issue had an article about child abuse. Some of the stuff like the impossible architecture of the hotel was most likely just to put the viewer on unease.

It’s dead quiet at work now, due to most of Finland being on vacation in July, so now I’m just checking off stuff off the Rewatchables podcast I’ve not seen in years, so can listen to episodes between clients. Tonight’s watch was Midnight Run (1988). Not as good as I remembered, also a bit too long, but the actors are all great in it. DeNiro and Grodin have great chemistry, and Dennis Farina steals every scene he’s in as Jimmy Serrano.

                    Wally The business card one

                    ’That’s bone'

If you like the flick I would recommend the book, most of it is unfilmable, but funny as fuck. Probably Easton Ellis’ best work, but I have a soft spot for his early stuff and the opening chapters of Lunar Park made me laugh so hard on the train I snotted all over myself and the bloke sat opposite me.

Yeah same, Hannu. It’s a good movie but feels very dated. Much of the humor just doesn’t hit anymore. The Color of Money feels more present and it came out two years earlier.

Give Vision Quest a go. The Rewatchables episode is great. Russillo is hilarious. The movie is also super weird but very amusing.

It has a boss soundtrack and some of the most bizarre dialogue in any movie ever. I don’t think I’d call it good but it is something. Pay for a rental? No. But if you’re hungover on a Sunday morning and it’s available on some streaming service, give it a go. There are parts that are legit good and others that are unintentionally hilarious.

Amps the book is bonkers but also a superb read. Very very gory in parts though.

Deffo his best work as well. Some of his other stuff is nonsensical (I’m including Lunar Park in that)

                        Just finished The Gentlemen.

Great cast and it was good to see Hugh Grant using a different voice and haircut for a change. An absolute pile of shite though. Guy Ritchie with his smarmy cockney script is now beyond stale. Convaluted nonsense to be fair with not one memorable character. That robbery with the dancing rapping ninjas? Do me a favour.

                        Recommended. 9/10.

LOL I didn’t mind it! But my expectations were very, very, very low. Not good but ehhhhh a fine few hours while making some dinner.
