I watched KONG - SKULL ISLAND last night with the kids - ace fun. 7 skullcrushers/10

2 weeks with feet up so going to be raiding this thread for recco’s 👍

Dust for Blood (2023)

Moody, dark Fargo clone with Scoot McNairy and Kit Harrington.

I actually liked this and would give it the CJ RECOMMENDS stamp of approval.

7.5/10

You’ll Never Find Me. A girl knocks on the door of a lonely older man in a trailer park in the middle of a storm. Something is a bit off with both of them. 2 hander all set in the trailer. I thought it was fantastic. Brilliant use of sound and light especially in the final 3rd. On Shudder.

Took @gcw advice and watched Robodoc. Absolutely superb- loved the scene by scene commentary but also the history of the cast and crew and the amount of effort it took to do anything in those days. Nancy Allen comes across as lovely, Weller less so, Verhoeven deranged 😂

The Abyss (1989). The ending is really quite silly, but everything before that is some amazing movie making by James Cameron, even if he nearly killed Ed Harris filming it.

Wasily it’s quality isn’t it? I get what you mean about Weller, but at the same time he looks like the kind of guy you’d have a right laugh with over a pint.

Some of the people they wheeled out….actors that were in it for about 30 seconds. They really covered all available bases

TitianWarrior yep. Wife’s review: I forgot this was so stupid. She didn’t complain during the movie though, so she’s got manners.

Of course India’s Amazon Prime doesn’t have Robodoc. Garbage behaviour. Still waiting for Saltburn also.

Dream Scenario: A pleasant discovery that we took a punt on mostly because it’s A24. Went in completely blind, didn’t even bother with synopsis, so don’t want to talk about the premise.

Did not disappoint. Hilarious, weird, dark, and this isn’t quick pay cheque Nic Cage. He’s bringing his A game. It’s like a Charlie Kaufman movie with lots of Alexander Payne sprinkled on top. Loved it. Might even watch again, feels like there’s lots more to it than meets the eye. Is there a review for this in this thread?

        Fall Guy……

Where do I start? Frantic love/action movie with a simplistic plot and amazing stunts (obviously).

        6/10 Kiss and Tells

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004). My first time watching. I don’t wonder why this movie is so beloved by so many people. Loved it.

303abuser watched natural born killers and motherless brooklyn yesterday, both were good.

Saw Motherless Brooklyn eventually, what a brilliant film - star turns everywhere, and a very successful attempt at neo-noir. 9/10

Reptile - Bang average murder mystery with a (telegraphed) ‘twist’

          4 / 10 - would rather listen to a 2hr organic house set

Just ordered The Hateful 8 on Blu-ray for my father as he hasn’t seen it.

          I hope I’m not turning into, H.

Monkey Man was a right old load of stupid nonsense, but loved it - 8/10

Along Came Polly (2004). The Rewatchables did an episode on this, I’d not seen it, and it was on a streamer I subscribe to so why not. They really don’t make movies like this anymore, and I’m pretty sure that’s not a bad thing. That said I laughed out loud a LOT which I didn’t expect. And extra point for the always amazing Philip Seymor Hoffman. ⅗.
