Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Solid ⅗ “I’ll never watch that again but I enjoyed it with a bucket of pop corn at the cinema.”

The motion capture-tech has gone leaps ahead again. You forgot the apes were CGI about 5 minutes into the movie.

The Fall Guy (2024)

This was tripe with a capital T.

Its one of those action movies where the actors all have to crack a joke. Got petrol poured all over you? Don’t worry, just crack a joke. About to get your head blown off? Make sure you crack a one liner first.

Add to that the usual array of preposterous stunts and you’ve got yourself an absolute stinker. The only thing keeping my interest was Emily Blunt, who is fit innit.

gcw Hollywood is panicking, May is top blockbuster-time, and from this year’s big releases only the new Planet of the Apes-movie has not tanked. Furiosa had a poor opening last night too. I think Deadpool vs Wolverine will be the only truly successful big summer movie this year.

Furiosa is very good but quite different from fury road. Respect due for not just doing a cash in job and actually putting the effort in but Fury Road is the better flick. Furiosa is quite long / borderline drags a little in the first hour and I was cream crackered from hitting the beers last night so will probs think more of it down the line. Defo worth a watch though. 8 war boys / 10

Homegrove He is. Not quite as batshit mental as you’d hope for but so far against his stereotype and he does it well.

Wally he was very good as the baddie in another wise bad movie Bad Times at El Royale. His godly looks work against him. Same as Chris Evans and Matt Damon. They"re always great when they’re playing assholes. Especially Damon.

Saw Furiosa last night, too long but loved it, Hemsworth is good and it’s a feast for the senses.

A young ‘Tim Curry look-a-like’ nutjob Christian priest harvests Christ’s DNA off a crucifixion nail, creates an IVF facility from what looks like a primary school chemistry bench and inserts the resulting embryo into Sydney Sweeney while she’s tanked on a good Barolo. Few of the other nuns are resentful and try and kill her to pass time before we’re clued up on what’s going on. Clearly she’s resentful of this and exacts her revenge on everyone around her whilst in labour.

There’s nothing really new here, few nods to Rosemary’s Baby, the Omen and the Name of the Rose and I was grateful this took up less than 90 mins of my Bank Holiday.

At @Along_the_Wire’s recommendation I watched Society of The Snow last night.

Absolutely harrowing yet also absolutely beautiful at the same time.
