Batman Returns (1992)

I believe the word you’re looking for is… AAAAAAAA!!!

My favorite Tim Burton movie. Everyone in this is dialed up to 11 (Danny De Vito probably up to 15) and I love it. After Batman’s (1989) great success Tim Burton got freedom to do as he wished with the sequel. WB executives were a bit nonplussed when he delivered this kinky S&M leather fantasy where Catwoman indicates Batman has a got a semi in his pants. He wasn’t invited back for more Batman. Michelle Pfeiffer in her every scene in this is my sexual orientation.

Watched the 4K Blu Ray which looked the best I’ve ever seen it, and I saw it in theatres in 1992. The added Dolby Atmos is also great, especially for the soundtrack.

The Cell (2000)

One of the most visually striking kinda bad movies ever made. Shrink Jennifer Lopez goes inside the mind of serial killer Vincent D’Ofrio and it gets really fucking trippy. Costume design by the same guy who did Coppola’s Dracula in 1993.

Homegrove have memories of this at the time, a rather grim torture scene involving intestines. Might have to rewatch

Clear and Present Danger. Not that great a film, vaguely entertaining, but just some stupidly unbelievable bits in it. Harrison Ford should never have taken on films where he’s required to run. 5/10

LaRoy, Texas. Very Coen Brothers-esque crime caper - great turns from everyone, a cracking film 8/10

Scrapper. Quite a miserable film to finish on - about a 12 year old trying to look after herself following the death of her mum. Some acting from Lola Campbell. A heartbreaking 8/10. Did enjoy the opening tune from the soundtrack - The Streets’ Turn the Page - they cut it off just before the best bit mind.

Infinity Pool: Fucking hell this movie goes hard. It’s a crazy plot, like an even more depraved version of White Lotus. The violence, the gore, and the sex stuff is in your face and you can’t help but feel filthy though it. The fact you’re thinking you’d give Mia Goth both pipes treatment doesnt help either.

Twisters (2024). Had a good time at the movies, no need to see that ever again. Very 90s blockbuster throwback in a good way, as in it cared about it’s characters, and not just the special effects. But then the director’s last picture was Minari, so he’s not your regular 2020s blockbuster director. A bit like Chloe Zao doing a Marvel-movie. That sucked though, Twisters was alright.
