First Cow (2019). A very slow western. If all you want from a movie is a mood this is it. Sort of a sweet movie though. Kelly Reichardt’s movies are all like this apparently, and after watching Certain Women and this I will probably watch more of her stuff too. I liked that one more though. Meek’s Cutoff is another western of hers that is supposed to be good too.

Leave No Trace (2018). A great drama about a veteran who has so bad PTSD he can’t function in a society, so he lives in the woods with his daughter. Society intervenes. Ben Foster and Thomasin MacKenzie star and both are really good in it. I guess I love slow cinema now, because this and First Cow really fit the description of that genre.

Watched Haywire last night as H mentioned it in the context of John Wick snd because it is a Soderbergh film. Apart from an all star cast, it was pretty disappointing. The pacing seemed to be off. A few decent action sequences and the less said about the ending, the better. 6/10

Started watching Rebel Ridge and have enjoyed so far. Think someone mentioned the First Blood theme, which is certainly true. Keeps you on the edge of your seat with the tension building constantly.

FB memories told me I went to see Fight Club in a movie theatre five years ago (it was a classic of the month-screening for the 20th anniversary), so it was a nice coincidence that I watched my Blu ray-copy at home yesterday. Once in five years is a good frequency for this I feel. Long enough time to forget how it’s structured story-wise. For example Tyler Durden enters the movie way later than you’d think (apart from the Intro of course). Great movie, I love that it bombed upon release, but was a huge hit in Finland.

Where do I start with this slick tale of espionage?

Blackbird is a 2018 spy film directed, produced, written by and starring Michael (Lord of the Jig) Flatley.
The plot seems like it was written on the back of a postage stamp by my 14 year old stepson for his drama class.

If you’ve got a spare £3m down the back of the sofa, why not. Personally I’d do a movie of the board, Statham to play me obviously, Gillingham to direct, Eno on soundtrack duties, slow burner, it’s true genius probably never realised by the critics, big Blu Ray cult hit.
