Conclave (2024). Pretty exciting film considering that it’s almost 100 % people talking in big rooms. The cinematography also went pretty hard, some great shots I was happy to be able to see on the big screen. ⅘ stars.

Alien: Romulus (2024)

Meh. Some of it was quite good.. I managed to sit through the whole thing at least. The end was quite funny and some of the space footage was cool.

Rubbish WW2 film, based on a real events, half interesting to see Prague before it became overrun with tourists.

Lets face it, there are two good Alien films, the rest, in truth, we could have all lived without. I like the expanded universe bits, but most of it is just Hollywood printing money.

Someone said that Alien: Romulus is the Force Awakens of that franchise and it’s nicely put. I like both, but also see them for what they are; the greatest hits with a new cast.

It shares several archetypal elements with Fede Álvarez’s other film, Don’t Breathe (2016), including the Strong Female Lead being led astray by a man, the breaking and entering into a confined, isolated space to steal something, and the subsequent struggle to survive or escape from a monstrous threat. Both films feature a sibling dynamic, a sacrifice…. there’s probably more.

The plot was so obvious from about 10 mins in. Which is shame as i do like a good court room drama

Amps Alien 3 (Special Edition) is a good film, and I will not tolerate slander towards it. The theatrical cut is bad, yes.

Homegrove I have friends who swear the director’s cut of this is the best thing in the franchise. Never got round to watching it. Having rewatched 1 & 2 recently, and after seeing the 6 hr aliens documentary I’m going with Cameron’s effort as my fave.

Wasily going to go all 🤓 here but the Special Edition of Alien 3 is not a director’s cut, Fincher did not get any cut of his own of the film. The Special Edition is closer to the shooting script than the theatrical cut the Fox-execs ordered.
