Shang-chi: Generally avoid Marvel movies like the plague, but the reviews said this was different… and it is. I can’t imagine a martial arts fan not liking this, it checks all the boxes. Decent storyline, just enough humour in the script, and you can’t really fault all the action. Gets a bit CGI heavy in the second half but it is nice to look at. 7.9/10
The Lost Daughter: Grant and Alistair’s reviews of this put me off completely. But had no choice since the missus was adamant. I’m glad I watched it. It’s awkward af, but also kinda dreamy and ethereal. At times it feels like you’re watching a horror movie, when it’s actually heavy family drama - similar to Power of the Dog. The acting is stellar, and I’m sure women will find this to be a feminist masterpiece. I still came out of it thinking selfish cunt. For what it’s worth it’s one of those movies that stays with you. An interesting experience watching this, great work from Maggie Gyllenhal. 8.2/10
