With Dave and others. Heat is not the masterpiece some make it out to be. The Moby soundtrack makes it sound very dated, it’s far too long, and with that lack of editing they somehow left out the part where Pacino is supposed to be on blow the entire time, which makes his character make far more sense. Without that detail he just comes off as unhinged for really no reason whatsoever.
It was still a spectacle at the time. Beautifully shot and certainly an eye-opener. Kilmer was good in it. Deniro was good. I love Ted Levine in anything. A few scenes are pretty damn iconic. But a pretty tiresome watch after the first two viewings.
“I HAD TO GET IT ON MAN” is still great, ’though.
