Bergman Island (2021)
Tim Roth and his bird go to some remote Swedish island where Ingmar Bergman lived, apparently he was some hot-shot film director. Whatever. Roth plays a film director and his bird is trying to write a book/ movie so theyâve gone there to, like, get inspired or something. Basically sod all happens, but itâs so nicely shot and chilled it kind of gets away with it and plays like an antidote to all those stressful jeopardy-based films you may have seen recently.
About half-way through, Rothâs bird starts to discuss the thing sheâs working on, so you get this meta-film-within-a-film thing going on and it actually gets quite good, Mia Wasikowska gives an incredible, moving performance. The ending is a non-event.
Overall, quite hard to sum this one up. If you can handle a ponderous, fairly boring watch, I would actually recommend it.
