C_J Pretty much got instant gratification with Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Phantom Thread.

Punch Drunk Love, Inherent Vice, and There Will Be Blood - I struggled on first viewing, enough to think what is this pretentious bollocks. But then found them incredible on viewings after (must have seen each at least three times).

Dan Struggled with The Master, on and off on multiple occasions. finally powered through it, and it was a bit too weird for me. can’t say the subject matter interested me either. The acting is brilliant, tbf.

I’d say Magnolia and There Will Be Blood are flawless, without exaggerating.

Bodies, Bodies, Bodies. Horror/Whodunnit. Bunch of thoroughly unlikable twenty somethings are holed up in a house during storm when they start being offed. Thought this was excellent with a great ending

Blonde. I know this is on Netflix but oh well. Marilyn Monroe biopic. There are some amazing sequences but it’s too long and overall found it cold and emotionally unengaging.Ana De Armas is very good.

Homegrove hadn’t read that and haven’t seen Mullholland Drive drive for a long time so can’t really recall/comment apart from the obvious blonde aspiring actress thing. I know it seems be many peoples favourite Lynch film now but I’ve never gone back to it.

Beautiful Boy (2018, Amazon)

This film intrigued & ticked several interesting boxes for CJ - Steve Carell, Timothée Chalamet, father/son dynamic, based on a true story - so I thought i’d give it a whirl.

It’s a sad tale of white middle-class addiction. There’s no fist-pumping soundtrack here, no heart-pounding set piece spectaculars, no special effects. Just two talented actors bringin the source material to life and doing some serious male bonding in between meth benders. If that sounds like something you can get behind why not give it a whirl too? The film that is, not the meth benders obviously.

Homegrove indeed!…..like Lynch but just preferred Fire Walk with Me, Wild at Heart and even The Straight Story…the ending to this broke me one Sunday afternoon after a heavy Gods Kitchen involving weekend

The Northman: As far as revenge movies go, this is pretty epic and brutal. Hammer of the Gods shizzi. It’s a wild ride and I’m glad I went on it. Thought it was cool how the main character would say outlandish stuff and then you see it play it out. Can’t really fault it for anything. Was waiting for immigrant song to play, but maybe that would be too on the nose.

This is the first Eggers movie I’ve been able to complete, though I only gave witch half a chance (was way too stoned). 8.2/10

rhouses Eggers’ is doing a remake of Nosferatu next with Bill Skarsgård. It’s his passion project, he’s talked about the original movie in just about every interview of his I’ve read.
