This might sound a little pretentious so apologies in advance. But something about that film just made me forget I was watching a movie and it felt like I was really being shown something real and meaningful about the world and possibly even the nature of existence, which was pretty exciting. Like, it’s about this disenfranchised, rootless late middle-aged widow, working whatever gigs she can and basically living hand to mouth, right? Not a protagonist I’d have an obvious connection with. And Frances McDormand, I mean it’s not like she really has to put on any great show or performance, is it. She just simply inhabits that persona and just kind of behaves completely naturally, sort of like she’s not acting but just being herself albeit in this artificially contrived scenario. But I think we can all relate to it in a way because none of us really knows what’s around the corner and maybe part of us wants to be liberated from the shackles of capitalist consumerism and just really strip life back to the basics, you know? I dunno man. I guess I was pretty high when I watched that one. It really cut through the bullshit.
