  • Rate The Last Movie you Watched

There’s a handy little tool called moviesatlasapp.com that shows you where certain movies can be played/streamed. Check it out if, like me, you are overwhelmed with all the options out there.

Justwatch.com works well too. I use that. You can add your streaming services for free, and you can also check what movies are on sale at iTunes and Google if you buy movies on VOD.

It’s What’s Inside: An entertaining roller coaster ride, that forces you to hold on tight. But it’s a bit too gen z with a load of jump cuts and screen shots of social media action, along with the overall disco lighting. Without spoiling too much, I didn’t like the bits at the end where they go red screen and make things obvious. Enjoyed the twist though. Good watch but would probably enjoy more if I was in high school.

    Alien Romulus

Hollywood continues to cosplay as Hollywood, rather than create any original art, for the sake of nostalgia dollar. Load of shite.

1 surprisingly shitty deep fake out of 5

Really enjoyed The Apprentice. Loved the throwback to grimy 70’s New York and the much chintzier 80s. Anchored by two strong performances especially Jeremy Strong as the venal Roy Cohn who takes Don under his wing. Superb soundtrack too. Forget the Bradshaw/Guardian review. It’s a lot of fun.

alistair I really want to watch that, but I also really want to only watch it when Trump is in the rear view mirror. I’ve listened to Sebastian Stan in two different podcasts promoting that movie, and what he did sounds really interesting. And Strong is always good.

        alistair Bradshaw/Guardian review

I reckon he’s taking bungs - his reviews are almost worthless nowadays. Shame.

A Bigger Splash (2015). Hot rich people get naked in Italy, drama follows. Ralph Fiennes is incredible in this, I can’t believe he’s never won an Oscar.

        Speak No Evil (2024) 7/10

American couple with daughter based in London meet ‘Bristolian’ James McAvoy and family on holiday in Italy then go visit his West Country farmhouse for another holiday when they return to the UK.

This is a decent psychological horror movie that builds nicely, creating a sense of discomfort for the visitors and audience, starting with relatively innocuous stuff like serving goose to a pescatarian and going on to more heinous behaviour.

McAvoy’s West Country is all over the shop (I know as I talk to @ScottBailey sometimes) but this movie is well executed and the tension builds really well. Not a massive fan of horror but this was a decent watch. Some memorable dance scenes with Rednex - Cotton Eye Joe.

Wasily you should check out the euro version and compare. Feel like it’s much better.

rhouses 👍. Didnt realise there was a Danish version. Explains why the Hollywood one was decent.

The wild robot - took the kids to see this after hearing good things and it’s class. Loved it. Arguably Dreamworks best animated feature. If you’ve got young kids and are looking for something to do, you could do far worse. 9/10

                Caddo Lake (2024)

Don’t read anything about it. It’s an M. Night Shyamalan joint so you know the type of vibe. It borrows from a certain TV show but hey, steal from the best, right?

                I’d recommend this. Pretty good.

Lads I’ve got today off and would like to watch a film with me Julie.

What are the top 3 films of the year so far and I’ll aim for one of them?

                Thanking you!

Smallman1 Not all this year, but watched this year. No particular order

Gladiator (2000). There was a screening of this in the local multiplex in the iSense-room (4K laser projector, Dolby Atmos-sound, massive screen), so had to buy a ticket, especially as I didn’t go see this when it was originally released 24 years ago, because at the time I thought that no one can do a good sword and sandals movie in this day and age. I was wrong. I have of course seen this at home many times since, but can’t beat a really big screen, and a crowd.

Millsy I found all of us strangers disappointing

                    Basically Brokeback Mountain in London?

No wonder Grant loves it <fast hand clap>

Finally got round to watching The Holdovers. Excellent film. Paul Giamatti does Paul Giamatti type things. Thought the supporting cast was brilliant though - particularly Dominic Sessa and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. 9/10.

Going to Almodovar’s latest The Room next door on Friday.

Smallman1 Lads I’ve got today off and would like to watch a film with me Julie.

                      You’re welcome.

See No Evil. First hour was good, second drivel. Seems like a lot of CGI in there when there doesn’t need to be - shadows at completely opposite angles being a lazy example. Hilarious watching the kids coming down the ladder near the end and they’ve used adult stunt doubles in similar clothes. 4/10

Closer (2004). I knew this was based on a play before reading it was from the closing titles, the theatrical dialogue was annoying me. The thank you for your honesty-fight was an all timer though.

Along_the_Wire Deffo worth a watch. Not a Christmas movie we watch every year, but I always really enjoy it when we do…

Lol, ‘A Night At The Roxbury’ - how had I never seen it before?!
