Watched Bird last night, set in sunny Gravesend. The Sheppey bridge event got a cameo. Kent Massive in the house! lol

Was a pretty surreal and sad film, but thinking about it today which means it hit the mark to a degree. I can fully believe a lot of people in this country live like those depicted in the film. A sad state of affairs in 2025.

Worth a watch- 7/10

Seeing Se7en in a movie theatre on a really big screen was amazing. What a happy feelgood film. Forgot it had David Bowie’s Hearts Filthy Lesson playing over the end credits. An awesome song. Also actually read the beginning credits. Fincher had Ridley Scott’s set design guy on this. No wonder the sets were so perfect.

Crimson Tide (1995). It’s Gene Hackman’s 95th birthday today, and this film turns 30 this year, so I thought it was high time I finally watch this. Somehow I hadn’t before. Pretty damn exiting even when you know the outcome all the time. I was all tense watching it the whole time. Quentin Tarantino and Aaron Sorkin script doctored on this, and while I didn’t pick any obvious Sorkinisms the Tarantino-stuff was pretty easy to spot.

Homegrove I watched French Connection on a whim yesterday, great movie, ways ahead of its time etc etc. But that ending was bizarre af.

Along_the_Wire First time. I was confused, the stake outs and trailing felt extremely obvious at the start, then you figure everyone is in the know. Loved the subway scene.

But yeah, that final showdown was wild. Cornering them on the flyover with at least 10 cars, only for the frenchie to make a u-turn and pretty much escape. Hackman mowing down an FBI agent with friendly fire and giving absolutely no fucks was also nutty. And then the epilogue write ups for each character was hilarious, almost felt like satire. Does make me want to watch the sequel, but still, that end was bizarre.

Roy Scheider’s character in that got sick of Gene Hackman’s character’s actions and later moved to a small Island community to police there in peace.

Love Popeye in those flicks. Great character.

Another great Roy Scheider classic is “The Seven Ups”. Its a New York cop thriller with a brilliant car chase. Of its time of course but well worth a watch.

Rewatched a few classics. Last night wife and I watched The Usual Suspects (1995), Arrow Video released it on 4K in the UK, and as it’s a film I love watching it was an easy decision to buy it. Directed by a sexual predator (Brian Singer), starring a sexual predator (Kevin Spacey), and it’s really good. Gabriel Byrne is also good in it, despite slipping into his Irish accent all the time. He’s supposed to be an ex NY cop.

And since today is Groundhog Day I watched that. But I do most years. Bill Murray was in a dark place in his life while filming it going through a nasty divorce, and it shows and adds to the movie. He was such a dick on set too, that he and Harold Ramis didn’t speak again until right before Ramis passed away.

Watched Interstellar in IMAX last night. That was a proper experience, my ears are paying for it a bit today, but well worth it. The scene going through the black hole almost melted my brain.
