I’m watching Interstellar for the first time on Sunday, IMAX. Signed up for an 9am show.

Had a glorious day home alone for the first time after ages this Sunday. Watched The Handmaiden and The Last of the Mohicans. Handmaiden is a wild romp, but maybe a bit too hyped. ( 7.7 / 10 ) Mohicans quite a bit cheesier than I remembered, but just about holds up. ( 7.1 / 10 )

A fire wood biryani, green curry mutton chops, and a humongous slice of vanilla cream white chocolate cake with fresh strawberries was demolished solo. Wife and daughter walked in on me passed the fuck out, the apartment reeking of herbs and the cricket blaring at 9PM.

rhouses this is, hands down, one of the best final sections of any film, ever. No dialogue, just storytelling, all backed by Promentory (tune)… fucking amazing.

Just gave it another go after a couple of decades. Should’ve just left it.

Watched The Substance. Got about halfway through it. It looks, sounds and feels great, but could see where it was going and just didn’t keep me interested enough despite all the tits and muff.

Anora. An uncomfortable watch in parts and funny in others - an odd but good film that flew well under my radar. 7/10

1941 (1979). Spielberg’s biggest blunder along with Hook. I used to love this as a kid. Did not love it now. Jesus what a mess. Well, the dance/ fight-sequence was great. That’s about it for positives with this movie.

North By Northwest (1959). Another first watch.

No wonder his previous wifes divorced him, such a mamma’s boy.

Watching these old movies for the first time 70 years later it always takes a little while to get used to the acting style of the 50s. Great movie though. The ending shot made me laugh out loud, pretty horny Mr. Hitchcock.

Next up on “classic films I’ve not seen” is The Third Man.

The Killers Game

Formulaic and predictable bordering on cheesey. Another film attempting to cash in on the John Wick/ Nobody type action movie.

Sofia Boutella is its saving grace.

Miller’s Crossing: Enjoyed this far more than Barton Fink. Could easily be a good season of the Fargo TV show. Finny is exceptional, and this might be one of my favourite Turturro performances. Gabriel Byrne a legend, don’t see nearly enough of him. Gets a tad bit complex in the second half with all the wheeling and dealing, but comes through with a very Coen-esque ending. I’m assuming most of you have watched this.

It’s a very good point H, it’s just that we have such limited time on this planet and I’m worried about what you have been doing with yours.

Most of the Hitchcock stuff is worth a watch though. Proper Saturday afternoon BBC2 stuff here in the 80s, I devoured it.

The Man Who Wasn’t There is a worth a watch, especially if you like old school film noir. No Country obviously sits on top. Burn After Reading is an underrated gem, but not sure if it’s top 5.
