The Nest (2020, downloaded)

Jude Law and Carrie Coon play a well-off couple who move with their kids from NY to a Surrey mansion in the 80’s. Law lives above his means and slowly drowns in debts.

This is a slowish, gripping drama that felt like a throwback to those random low-budget high-quality films you would stumble across as a kid. It worked for me. I think Grant might like this.

8/10

C_J Found this a bit of an uphill struggle if I’m honest.

As did they.

Take my wife!

The Lodge and The Nest sound like my kind of films, cheers CJ. Hold tight for feedback etc

Wally also got round to this yesterday evening. Thought it was good but not great. Was hoping it would wow me like Oldboy did, but I thought the ending was incredibly lame.

Inside Out. After enjoying Soul, went for another Pixar number. Enjoyable and very funny in parts. The endless peril you get with some Pixar films gets a bit tedious sometimes. 7/10

Can’t find it CJ - where’re you downloading it from?

    PM sent

    Cheers CJ

has anyone else’s PMs not appear in their feed?

    Yes, same.

Getting an e-mail notification but then have to fuck about in the menu’s to get to

The Personal History of David Copperfield. Very enjoyable with a stellar cast - Iannucci delivers again. 8/10

Along_the_Wire I love Inside Out, it’s up there with WALL-E in my eyes. I didn’t really rate Soul, I just found it a bit dull and lacking some of the Pixar magic.

Trial of the Chicago Seven - catching up on a fair few flicks while I’m still on hol. Great flick. Love Aaron Sorkin stuff so was in my element with it. 9 insane judges / 10

Wonder Woman was absolute tripe. Was so underwhelmed by the first one I though this would make amends. It’s worse.

Watched all the Star Wars films in chronological order over the last couple of weeks. Mark Hamill is a terrible actor. Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor are also wooden and the 3 prequels are absolute garbage.

Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver are both genuinely good in the final 3, and the two by J J Abrams are the best, particularly the last one. I think he nailed it.

Soul. Generally like Pixar stuff but just couldn’t get into this. Kids fighting perhaps ruined it or maybe just a bit overhyped. 6/10 for me, Clive.

mono-stereo I’ve only ever seen the prequels once each and the last two were only because I had to take the kids. Truly awful films that capture nothing of the originals. The last JJ Abrams one was a pleasant surprise.

Completely agree on Mark Hamill - how the fuck did he get the job in the first place?
